I thought the biggest problem was throttle actuators on the S65 engine and I haven't read about any other issues... but glad I got rid of my old one now then! :lol:
 
Throttle actuators are common on the V8 and V10...

Not a huge problem in the scheme of things,just pricey..

The last time i was in BMW workshop there was a 2010 M3 with its engine and gearbox out awaiting replacement.Like i say,i here rod bearings and piston coatings are the main problems.

I think I remember reading about one on pistonheads where the engine let go and he had a new one fitted by bmw under warranty so as you suggest it seems they aren't as solid as I thought, mine had done 33k when I got it and sold it with 43k on it so maybe they aren't as good as the S54 at carrying higher mileage then.
