ok might sound silly but ive had my car since Friday and last night i had the 1st bird poo on my softtop roof and wasn't sure what was the best thing to do?? (didn't want to get anything too abrasive out and try and scrub it off and damage the roof or any product that's currently on it)

do i just leave it, wash it off with just a bottle of water, pressure wash it, use a certain product?

for the time being i have just washed it off with a bottle of water and most of it has gone but u can still see it was there lol

thought it would be best to ask on here for any advise/suggestions to see how others deal with it?

thanks.

i just didn't want to pressure wash it in case it damaged anything life roof treatments etc... (maybe i was just being over protective of my lovely new car lol)

at the weekend I'm gonna spend some time looking through the how to section and get a better idea of what/how to treat my roof ready for the winter

thanks.

You might want to chuck a silicone spray of some kind on it after to protect it, the detailing sections/forums will point you in the right direction there.

i would just clean it with with some warm water and your preferred car shampoo. just gently rub the area if its stuck on. and rince off. maybe even as its winter give it a going over with an autoglym roof cleaning kit ready for winter.

ill have to wait until the weekend to give it a good going over as its always dark when i get home from work and i have no garage/lighting :(

so looks like its time to be all geeky and read lots of detailing threads and then do some online shopping for a bunch of new car care products (was happy to pay the local car wash to do my previous car.... something tells me ill want to be a bit more careful and do my Z myself lol)

Definitely warm water and good quality ph. neutral car shampoo. Certainly works for me and I live near the coast where seagulls 'aim' for my Zed after it's been cleaned :P Certainly would not use a silicone spray to protect - a good quality after market specific cleaner. I use the BMW stuff - works well but other use different brands to good effect.

Did mine with the Autoglym kit which has a shampoo type cleaner and then a protector. When its done the water will run off the roof like its been waxed and hopefully "Stuff" will not stick to it as easily again.
Kit comes complete with a hard type sponge to give the roof a good scrub when you shampoo it.
Brought the black colour back on mine when I did it :)

There must be some Norfolk girls living in the west of Scotland then!!!
Warm soapy water and then hose off and treat when you can... In my experience pressure washing is not a good idea.

don't pressure wash the roof  warm water it will come off
+1 a bit of warm water on a sponge or clean cloth and it will come off. No need to ever pressure wash your roof. :D

Agree, Use warm water, maybe a little soap, not too much. I would not pressure wash my roof either.

I had a box of individual wet wipes (each one in their own sealed sachet) specifically made for removing such mess from the Zed - they came from Autoglym and I kept a box in the car for just such problems.

The other thing you might like to use is detailing spray to loosen the mess (if it's been there for a time) and then it will wipe away more cleanly. I wouldn't scrub as you will scrub it into the roof fabric - needs softening and 'lifting' from the fabric.

:driving:
