Bilstein B12 on Alpina Roadster S

Hi,

I'm planning on treating the Alpina to a suspension refresh given I've got a broken rear spring.

- Has anyone experience of the Bilstein B12 kit? (B12 shocks + Eibach springs). I'm keen on a monotube kit and not bothered about infinite levels of adjustments the higher end kits give. The kit seems good value at £550:

- Any problems lowering the Alpina 20mm-30mm? eg wheels catching the arches etc

- The car has ~70k, any thing else I should refresh whilst the shocks/springs are off? eg specific bushes etc

I plan to get alignment adjusted post install.

Hmm. Part of the Alpina setup is that it has custom front suspension, the rear is standard 3.0. I'd replace the spring and go for new bushes to get it as close as possible to original. Apart from the limited slip diff incident I had (I got a rear wheel stuck in mud, much to the amusement of PVR etc) mine handled beautifully. If you do lower it, you'll need to get a four wheel alignment done as the geometry will be out. Make sure you take the settings from the handbook with you as they are non standard and they weren't in the Hunter database.

Thanks for the reply - I had it set up by Simpson Motorsport last year, so will probably take it back there again. What aspects of the front suspension did Alpina customise? Other than springs/dampers/geometry are there any mechanical differences that might cause compatibility issues with an after-market kit?

Which bushes are the candidates for refreshing?

I suspect that one of my front shocks is on it's way out, hence why I'm looking at getting a full kit. I've had Bilsteins in the past and have always been pretty happy with them.

Simpsons have done customised suspension on the RS before

If you're planning on using them for the work, your best course is probably to talk to them and ask their advice before deciding on exactly what is going to be done
 
Not much to add besides thanks for the link, it's the cheapest I've seen a b12 kit yet!
