Not sure if people have already seen this but seems this guy had a very lucky escape and has shared this as a warning to others...

What with the recent thread on camera's for the dashboard made me think of the forum when I watched it.

+1

(as a biker)

:headbang:

Actually, looking at the footage again... I don't even know how he manged that... it wasn't a very sharp bend, and didn't seem to be going that fast, or turning that hard...

Maybe I'm looking at it wrong.... but a bit more countersteering and leaning should have solved it...

or just read the road with the SLOW and solid lines to help out...

what did he think the SLOW on the road meant

not to mention the double whites...

hope the police prosecute, absolute twunt.

+1, A friend of mine came of a bike an into a dry stone wall. Paralysed from the waist down now. Hope he takes this as a wake up call, very lucky indeed

Saw that video yesterday shocking bit of riding but it reminded me of this article i heard on my local news on Monday, four people killed on Cumbrian roads at the weekend in TWO hours three of them bikers

Seems no obvious reason for the corner not to be taken on his own side of the road. Rider saw the car, thought that it would be 'close', touched the brakes while still in the corner. Bike will run wide. Self fulfilled.

A lesson a biker needs to learn early on, too fast into a corner, braking = wrong side of the road. :(

I was gunna say at the point he realised the bend wasn't what he thought it was it was too late. By that time there was no other option.
I'm guessing the guy who said he should have turned/leaned more isn't a biker?
The blade he overtook is identicle to mine too.
Tbh I don't like to ride anywhere near that speed around bends for fear of the same thing. Especially on roads you don't know.
you can tell he doesn't know the corner, it appears he's expecting it to straighten up around the time the car appeared.

Looked like to me the curve freaked him out and he let off the throttle about the point he should have given it more to power him through the curve.

Let off gas as starting into a curve and power on in the middle of the curve.

Bet the guy hasn't been riding long,,,, $20,000.00 and 20 miles does not make a Biker!

What makes you think that? :s

Just the impression I got maybe I misunderstood what you meant.
by the time he started running wide it was too late. Complete numpty move but imo he took the bend as though he thought it was about to straighten out. So the mistake was made early on. To fast and wrong positioning

He probably would've made it round had he turned/leaned over a bit more. To me, he slowed, saw the car, panicked then straightened and stood the bike up. Also, as you say, could've avoided the whole thing with appropriate speed and positioning. Beautiful thing hindsight though. I'm guessing most riders have made the same mistake too just without the crashing.
