Big crash on Snake Pass

A rather harrowing reminder of how dangerous this road is today. I was driving from Sheffield to Manchester this afternoon and saw a car on its roof, smashed to hell. Police were already on scene but no ambulance so must've only just happened.

Snake Pass (Peak District for those of you who don't know) is a beautiful driving road but so many people don't respect it and the tight corners can easily catch you out.

I was on the same route yesterday as well and there was this clown in a transit up my arse, overtook me (I was doing around 60 and didn't fancy going quicker than that I the zed. This moron overtook me and started chucking the van into corners doing 80 easily. Had a death wish.

I hope whoever was in that car today was ok anyway. Proper shook me up seeing it.

Stay safe folks.

Usually a pretty busy road during the day, Must admit those corners and steep drops, make me drive with extra care when I use it. Like you I have seen some mad overtaking on it though. Lets hope everybody walked away.

Probably shouldn't point out that I used to do the Liverpool to Sheffield commute most days for about 2 years - and my AVERAGE was about 60mph.

In my defence, I was much younger and was in a modified Corrado VR6. Never crashed it, but did end up on the wrong side of the road once when I hit a yump on a corner :o

You should come to Germany. The wife and I were in the Zed on a very twisty road. But as I didn't know this road I was doing maybe 6 or 7/10's effort. But I had this moron in a golf behind me using the oncoming lane in blind corners to keep up with me. A mile or so later. He put on his left signal and I went on ahead. When I saw him turn. I couldn't believe my eyes. The guy in that golf was pulling a lightweight utility trailer. It's the one bad habit that the otherwise good German drivers seem to have. They have no problems with driving in the left lane prior to a right hand blind curve to get a better line through the corner. The Germans will even do such stunts while doing the speed limit. The Germans also have no fear of clipping the apex in a blind left hand corner which requires you to be in the middle of the corner in the oncoming traffics lane. Holy cow! I always thought Germans were much smarter than that. Thing is. It's not the young punks or the sports car drivers that drive like this. It's the family sedans and mini vans and little under powered city cars that do it the most. Both young and old as well.

I live inbetween the Snake pass and the Woodhead Pass in the High peak...

The Snake is still classed as "relatively safe",whereas the Woodhead has accidents more or less every weekend on Saturday and Sunday....

Both a bit naughty if your not used to them though..

A2 London bound was closed both ways this Friday evening... air ambulance, roof cut off of a car, pillow on 3 lane carriageway.

Drive safe out there

Young lad killed on his Mbike about 400yards from our house on Tuesday. Local lad on his way to work at Lidles. Went to school with my son. Life is very precious. Take care out there.

Did the snake twice last week.once in the missus zafira when we went to see Bon Jovi (she thought I was leaving my car in a Manchester car park!) and I enjoyed it that much I drove to Glossop and back in mine just for fun.Mind you it was sub 50 all the way what with all the RV's on the road
