Big brake kit - DIM (do it myself :P) or take it to a shop?

So, i bought a used big brake kit from Peppermint and it's finally arrived in Cyprus. It's still at the shipping company but i can go and pick it up whenever.

Now here's the thing, i'm taking the car to a garage on Monday to have it checked out (for this: http://www.z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=32043) and it got me thinking if i should have them install the brakes as well or try and do it at home.

I've got jack-stands and an OK tool kit and i've done a few basic things by myself like replacing brake pads and bleeding my brake fluid but is a brake kit taking it too far? How hard is it? Any special tools you need? How long would a novice take to do it and how easy is it to screw up? (I have been known to be a bit clumsy... :oops: )
 
Hmm I think I would get someone to fit it for me. Suppose it depends on how much time you have. Are these the Stoptech ones, they were s-e-x-y :sweetheart:
 
If all the parts fit and the fastenings all come loose properly, it's very straight forward. But the penalty for getting it wrong can be severe. How confident are you?
 
Wondermike, yep those ones.

bcworkz, i reckon i could do it but having not tackled anything like that before i'm cautious. Plus other big brake kits need part of the dust shield to be removed and perhaps other mods here and there...

And then there's the fact that it's already going in the shop... Can't decide! :headbang:
 
i did mine myself but i had all,day and could move smoothly.If you have the money get it done at the shop
 
Took it to the shop in the end. They need spacers to fit, which was expected but hoping i could avoid.

Also the shop told me that the rear discs have an issue with the dust guard (?). Need to confirm with Peppermint if he had to modify anything to get them on. I was under the impression that it plug and play really.
 
I've seen those brakes on Peppermint's car,stunning.You'll have some fun with those.I seem to remember something has to be slightly modified to make a big brake kit fit.
 
It makes sense really to have to modify the dust guard since the Stoptech rotors are much thicker than the stock ones. Since it needs spacers we decided to wait until i have them to continue with the installation.

If anyone has any tips for big brake kit installations please post them though
