welp it's done. NO bulb out warning light or anything. Flash to pass works, i have BOTH high beams, walk me home function are all the same.

BlackSapphireZ - that's really cool and great upgrade without having to get new light units. Something I had to do to a few of the lights while building sets for the AE conversions I've done, but with OEM ballast and wiring.

Curiosity only:
Did you get the motor function to work on the shutter to give the dip/main on the xenon?

Where and how did you take the ht lead out to the ballast or did you fit the ballast inside th elight housing?

Never have understood the bulb out indicator. On and X5 you'll get the warning on a Z4 not.... go figure that
 
i duno what you're talking about the motor function... it works as it should

I had the aftermarket ballast so if you read, I had the D2S to aftermarket ballast wiring harness and pretty much swapped out the projecter thats it.

correct me if im wrong, bi xenons operate by opening and closing a shutter in the projector to allow more light out. so i guess what cj10 and me are asking is ..what is moving the shutter?

OK - I see how you did the ballast.

On the 'motor' function I probably did not describe it clearly, but exactly as tsuiesque posted. A xenon becomes a 'bi xenon' in that it changes from dipped to main by using a small 'motor' drive to raise and lower a cut off shutter between the xenon bulb and the lens. On the z4 this operates the shutter with a lever and can be heard as a very distinct click, not to be confused with the motor that raises and lowers the entire light housing to set it, typically seen operating when you switch on the lights.

The halogen housing does not have the moving part of the shutter, just the static, nor does it have the extra 2 wires to activate it.

As I said interested to know if you if it works correctly (it can be seen fitted in one of your pictures) or is simply acting as a single xenon with the main coming from the other halogen

Whatever it's a great mod.

yes my bi-xenon shutter works. as shown in the picture.
 
his bixenon function seems fully operational, kudos to that..
still the question remains - how the motor for that function is actuated...

I think Xenons look nice in pics, etc., but always thought they were really annoying when you passed them on the roads. A strain on the eyes. :oldman:

wire connected to the high beam... not that diffuclt
