Best soft top protection???

Hi all

I'm picking up my nearly new M40i early next week.
I was wondering 🤔, what's the best soft top protection? I've ordered some Gtechnic I1 Smart Fabric Protection, as it had pretty good writeups.

Interested to hear your opinions

Cheers

Everything I have read on here suggests they come with proofing out the factory. I guess you can add to it?

Best stuff I have used is 303 by an absolute country mile

Not sure about the G29 but the e85 is designed to be semi breathable. Might be worth checking before fully sealing.

Gtechnic I1 Smart Fabric Protection was my choice, after comparing things on the Internet. Cheers 👍🏼 That's the one I'll be going for.

Is it an easy process to apply it ? It looks to be, spray on dry roof, gently rub in, and leave??? I guess it doesn't leave any streaks after application

Cheers ! Thanks for the vid 👍🏼

You have to clean and dry the top well. I had the car and rear windscreen covered in plastic. Sprayed on to the top and rub it in by hand with plastic hand gloves. Then left in the garage for 12 hours drying.

As an example this video it's a bit different but you get the feeling how too.

I think there a few threads on here about the best product. After a year of owning mine it needs doing as i can see the water no longer beads. But if you have a newly manufactured car i'd leave it as it does have something on it already.

My detailer used Gyeon Q2 Fabric Coat.

Superb 👍🏼 Thanks
The car I'm getting is an approved used, so not brand new. I intend to fully detail the entire car, and want to clean & protect the roof before winter.

Just ordered the GTECHNIC I1 Smart Fabric Protection 👍🏼
26 quid, from Amazon 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼

I'll let you know how I get on, in a week or so 😉

Nice 👍🏼
Not actually picked mine up yet, but it has 20k on it ( I think 🤔), so it's been out on the road in lots of weather.....rain and sun. I figured it won't do any harm to give it a clean, and stick some extra protection on it 😉

I'll definitely post my results, once I've done it 👍🏼

I used it about a year ago as recommended by site member who I trust. Still working perfectly. I don't think these products improve the waterproofing but they certainly make the roof dry a whole lot quicker in my experience.

PS I hope the one you purchased from Amazon is the larger size as mine was some £10 cheaper

I had the Gyeon Fabric coat on my previous convertible BMW e46 M3 but found it much more difficult to apply and you also had to mask the rubbers well because the stuff slightly affected the rubbers.

I guess that's why I leave anything like that to a professional.

Cleaned the roof, with a hand brush, and car wash shampoo. Rinsed any soap completely off, and allowed to dry. I then liberally sprayed the GTECHNIC fabric protection on, and rubbed in just using a nitrile gloved hand. That all dried in nicely......no streaks or stains. No colour dye issues.
I splashed the hose at it, a while later, and it looked a good repellant 👍🏼 (image attached)

I rained last night, and there were perfect beads, and run offs (wish I'd taken a picture of that, to post. Soz)

Anyway. Definitely worth looking into, if you're looking to add a little extra protection to your soft top 😉👍🏼
