best seat cover for pets?

Does anyone take their pet along with them in the Z4? Occasionally, I'd like to take my dog with me for a nice top-down ride along the beach, but I need to find a seat cover thick enough to prevent his claws from piercing the cover and damaging my leather seat. The ones I've seen so far are much too thin, really only useful for limiting the hair shed by the animal. Any suggestions?

BTW, he's a 70 pound (31.8 kg) Boxer, pictured below.

You're braver than me, wouldn't that fellow on my seats.

I reckon you might be better making something yourself, think foam or padding, duvet material?

I can't see any normal seat cover stopping him marking or creasing the leather.
 
Yeah padding under the seat cover sounds like your best bet, or a small mat?

The boot is rather large on the Z4 :o

As long as you push his head down before you slam it shut :roll:

It should be OK :thumbsup:

Only recomended for journeys of 5mls or less :D
 
My Golden really likes the lambswool covers but will accept the massage ones (the rows of little wooden balls that massage you as you travel) but only after a really hard hunt.




But seriously folks, :D I use canvas with a waterproof backing in my truck and the Landy. Yep, 3 days of rain, prairie mud and an all day partridge hunt last Saturday, waterprroof with a heavy canvas front is the only way to go. I had a couple of backseat covers from a Benz ML320 that I modified ... you could try something like that.
 
I use a large blanket folded several times and covering the seat. I connect the seatbelt to shut the bonger up.
 
I have always had a generic Halfords one but it won't fit the Z4 because of the seatbelt arrangement (the cover has a couple of loops on the back which don't fit over it) so I would recommend a home made one as above. I can only assume that the other covers are the same design as the Halfords one.
 
I looked at the bucket seat covers in my local PetSmart this week. The TWO models offered were much too thin to prevent punctures, and would not have worked due to the seatbelt hanger, as p4cks stated. If I had a beagle, maybe... I wouldn't mind modifying one from a different vehicle if I can find one that is tough, as mcbeee suggested. I'm going to hit the autoparts stores to see what I can find. If I find a solution, I'll post pics.
 
A mate with a Merc SLK and a large choclate labrador just sits the dog in the passenger footwell.He sits there good as gold,no problems.
