Best products on silver and long lasting.

Wanting to get the bodywork into a better state.

Whats best after a good polish with filling agents, claying and wash etc, to protect the paintwork.

Used to use AG Super Resin Polish as it'd fill and smooth a silver car nicely (don't want to do full correction and all that jazz), and then just put on some AG Extra Gloss Protection in a few coats that seemed to last a fair few months.

Is there anything better than what I'm using above for better life AND better visual performance?

Thanks

Dave

Dave,

AG SRP is the best thing to use to correct the paintwork if you're doing it all by hand. My paintwork was in a pretty good state to begin with so I've just fired on a couple of coats of wax for the moment, but may get a friendly Z4MC/ClioV6 ownerI know to correct it in future if required :D

I'm a convert to the Chemical Guys (CG) products - not widely available in the UK but can be had from http://www.chemicalguysuk.com/. Great VFM. I used their M Seal (perfect name for a BMW!) followed by XXX wax on my previous car (grey) and it's brilliant. Sealant for prolonged protection, wax on top of that to give an extra bit of visual performance. Best to build up a couple of coats of the M Seal followed by a coat of the XXX. As long as you keep topping up the XXX every 6-8 weeks it should be enough to keep it looking braw. I've not used sealant on my Z4 yet (waiting for better weather) but even with just a coat of XXX wax it's looking sweet.

I have, however, just bought a tub of Finish Kare #1000 sealant to try instead of the CG M Seal - it's supposed to be seriously durable sealant which you can stick a coat of wax on top of to get a brilliant finish. I've yet to try it but it gets raved about on the detailing world forum.

So many products and names :P

So if I AG SRP the car, then AG EGP to seal that nice base finish, then I can just put a nice durable shiny wax on top and layer that...

So it sounds like what I have is going to be ok, just need to find a good durable and shiny wax to sit right on top. Will try some XXX then I guess :D

Dave

Not sure what EGP is (Extra Gloss Protection?) but yep, if it's a sealant-type thing, stick a layer on then finish off with a natural wax such as the CG XXX. I've never really used AG products other than the SRP, but soon will be now that my roof cleaning/protection stuff arrived yesterday :). XXX isn't that durable IMO, unless 10-12 weeks is classed as durable (I don't!) but it's so easy and quick to alloy that I rate it anyway because the finish is so good.

I will be treating my car to a proper wash and wax next weekend.

I'll be using AG convertible roof cleaner and seal skit.
Wash with AG shampoo
Clay using meguires quik clay kit
Polish using AG SRP
Finished off with 2 coats of collinite 476s wax, Finish Kare 1000P wax is good stuff too.

Ah yes I'd heard Collinite mentioned a few times as being very good long lasting with a nice finish...

I've also read a few good reviews about that new AG High Tech Wax stuff... pretty steep at £35-£40 though, but it should last ages...

Main concern for me is doing the claying/SRP/wash etc takes a LONG time, so I want to make sure what I seal and wax ontop lasts a LONG time and can be topped up, so making the full on clean a once or twice a year job, not every other month :(

Preparation is the most important bit, glad you're planning on that! I know mine's not been prepared properly yet but it's been too fecking cold to do much with it. My job for the warmer times is a full polish if I think it needs it, claying, then build up the sealant before the waxing starts. More immediate is to put my AG roof cleaner/protecter to good use.

un1eash - have you used the Finish Kare 1000P stuff then? Good results?

I used mine last weekend.

Tips:

Dampen the roof first, then spray on the cleaner and scrub as per instructions.

Rinse off as per instructions.

Dry as per instructions (I used a microfibre to get the bulk of the damp out/off)

When applying the protector, don't spray it, it just blows around and lands on the fine hairs on the roof. Best to just pour 1/3 to 1/2 into a container and sponge it on to the roof. Much more accurate, and it saturates it nicely... I sprayed, lots blew away/onto bodywork, sprayed more, and it just seemed to roll off and bead up, so I just ended up spraying loads on and then pushing it around with a microfibre.

It hasn't rained since, but I did splash it when washing my partners car and it beaded up nicely on the roof!

Seems quite a popular roof product on Detailing World, especially the cleaner.

Cheers for the tips

My car's still clean and not due a clean, so I'll do the roof next time I'm washing the bodywork. It's got a few marks/creases in it so I'm keen to see what it does with them. If I remember I'll do before/after pics...

My creases/shiny ish areas have gone maybe 50%, so I expect if I just do the clean/treat in another 3 months, then it'll be looking pretty damn good...

Just needs some elbow grease and TLC to get everything in as new/mint condition as possible. Will be doing my interior leather again soon just to get it nice and soft and protected ready for the summer heat!

Not used FK 1000P myself but heard really good reviews ,it was out of stock when i order so i went for the collinite. I'll be putting my AG roof cleaner/protector on tomorrow morning before i head of to london for the weekend. (wont be taking the zed)

For long lasting glossy shine on silver I've tried top notch boutique waxes, CG sealants and most Meguiars waxes. Best results for me have been obtained with the Zaino system. As mentioned preparation is key, clay and polish the surface to get if defect free, then follow the Zaino steps

ZAIO - All in One - to prepare the surface
Z Show Car Polish - sealant x 2
Then for your weekly wash....
Z Show car wash
Z8 Grand Finale - enhances the gloss and keeps it topped-up (every 2-3 weeks)

Keeps that just polished look for 6+ months

m33.......

I use Vic Concours needs re applying every two months but the Collonite range is very good and lasts.

I've finally gone for...

Two bucketed with Megs Hyperwash after an Autobrite Snowfoam (non-pressure washer)

Megs clay + quick detailer

AG Super Resin Polish in straight lines one way, then the other, then back the other way again (three passes)

AG High Definition Wax (thought I'd give it a try) will do two coats.

Panel or two at a time, but should be good when I'm finished :)

Then just keep up with cleaning/re-waxing!

Let us know how you get on with the AG wax i still use AG products as a base and top off with a Wax try this QD for that just waxed look after every wash gives a nice gloss http://www.seriousperformance.co.uk/Products,78,toView_337.html

Zaino FTW on looks and durability though there is no fillers (or very very little).
I'm going to get my paint de-swirled/cobwebbed prior to using my Zaino on the car (sapphire black).

Black is a bugger.

On silver the AG SRP done in different directions seems to fill the swirls 75-80%, and then the wax covers a few more, so layering that and so on it shouldn't ever look too bad.

I'm not an OCD washer so I'd only eventually re-swirl a corrected car, and I value my laquer more than a perfect finish + OCD washing techniques :D

Fillers and lots of wax is my motto, and keeps silver looking pretty good.

On a black swirls just show up even in the day time sometimes quite badly, so I can see why you'd go for a full correction and a really good wax!
