I would never believe it was the same car. :D

Ditch the RUNFLATS!

Just put my Vredesteins on and Wow, what a difference. Steering is more precise and positive and no tramlining whatsoever. They make driving on bumpy, narrow A roads a joy instead of the nervy 'point and catch the jump' approach. I'm running the tyres at the Vredestein recommended pressures of 45 front and 41 rear and have a couple of cans of goop plus a compressor.

Others have said that ditching runflats transforms the handling - well if you are in 2 minds believe me just do it. You will not believe the difference.

Oh, by the way if anyone wants a set of Bridgestone runflats (part worn front and nearly new rears) just let me know.

Good stuff. Pressures sound rather high though IMO. Not sure on your sizes, but for my 225/40/18 and 255/35/18 combo on Falkens I'm running 30f / 32r. I was running 31f / 33r but have dropped it 1psi per end for the moment.

Yep, same sizes and I know they sound high but they come straight from the Vredestein site which is very model specific http://www.vredestein.com/Onlineadvies_Advies_Result.asp?SearchtypeID=1&UserSessionID=49892390&AutomerkID=21&AutomodelID=45&AutotypeID=1125&AutouitvoeringID=31657

Interesting that the same tyres on a 2.5 roadster are 42 front and 38 rear.

anyone got any 'goop' recommendations?? Can you get pressurised 'goop' to avoid the compressor? (might as well carry as spare if we cart around too much)

The goop is pressurised (Holts) but I like to have a compressor for checking/adjusting the pressures.

Think I’m going to follow suit. For my 255/35/18, 225/40/18 set up I have narrowed it down to the Vreds (£605 fully fitted from mytyres.co.uk) or the F1 Eagles (£606 fully fitted from event-tyres.co.uk). Good prices? Which would you go for considering no price difference?

Got my Vreds from tyremem for £428 incl delivery - not sure if they have them in stock now though and fitted at home by a mobile tyre fitter for £50.

That's the one I have - made for the job.

I'd always take a compressor along with any sealant as there's no guarantee the can will inflate the tyre enough, plus goo kills the tyre when it could be salvaged if its a slow puncture. I have my vreds at 32/30 but will try 35/35 as recommended on their site for a laugh. It still sounds a bit high tbh.

Perhaps this compressor / sealant combo is available on your side of the pond? Similar to the Conti kt.

Never used it, but it stands vigil in all of my cars.

Agree, I can't think of a mod for the Zed that gives such a real world performance improvement for your money.

I went with Falkens, Holts, a cheap little compressor and have recovery anyway just in case. :)

That's a bit of a myth - it's just a complete PITA to clean out of the tyre hence a lot of garages hate doing it so say "no" about repairing them...

x2

My local tyre place also said if the goo hasn't been in the tyre long it isn't that hard to get it out.

Fully agree with Half Colin. I fitted Vred Sessantas to my 2.5 a month ago and it has transformed the ride and handling.
£495 fitted and balanced - wish I had done it last year when I bought the car.
I carry the 'Slime' kit which also fits neatly next to the battery.

I've taken the plunge!

Just ordered a set of Vreds. I've used them on my wifes A4 Quattro and they are impressive on that car so I hope they do the same for the Zed.
They have certainly impressed Half Colin! I was half tempted to buy his runflats, but his enthusiastic reveiw ended that idea.
Without any intention to advertise, I bought mine from clickonytyres.com and got the full set £434 delivered! Like most things these days the price seem to go up on a weekly basis.

I'll not be getting them fitted 'til mid April - I'll just have to be patient.

As a footnote, I think I'll hang onto the old runflats just incase swmbo allows me something newer next year. I gather that the dealers don't like non runflats?

All of the Vredestein products seem to come with a recommendation of high pressures. I have their tyres on my Disco3 and when first fitted it was like driving Fred Dibnahs traction engine. After a while they loosened up and now feel completly normal. When the D3 goes in for a service, the garage puts the inflation pressure back to standard - then the drive feels "wrong".

I have contacted their tech dept in the UK and they confirm that theirs are the correct pressures and should be used - I suppose with their mabnufacturing and technical knowledge, they must know something we don't.

Can the high pressures of the Vreds be any worse than the runflats? I'll let you know when mine are fitted!

Some people have mentioned the Vreds are noisy? Are they still noisy with the correct pressures?

Failing that, can I sneakily ask if anyone has non RFT tyres that are quiet? I know it's a sports car, but I want to hear the engine not the road

I haven't noticed any undue noise on the A4.
