Best Driving Route: Surrey, Sussex, Hants - PHOTOS/ MAPS INC

Just got back from the drive. Left at 12:40 and returned at 14:55, so 2:15 for the entire route. Some nice sections of road, but nothing substantial enough to get excited about.

Was a frustrating time of day lots of lorries/ van/ "pootlers" on the road to stop any flow through the twisties.

The A24 is horrendous and early stages of the A272 aren't great either. But the A272 from Wisborough Green to Petworth, and A283 from Petworth to Chiddingfold are a lot of fun.

I may try a route down the A283 and turning right onto the A272 towards WInchester next time. Hopefully some longer more sustained NSL stretches.

You need to drive those roads very early (great with the sun coming up) or very late at night as the A272 is a trunk road :(

Yeh, that became very apparent to me early on, I think I was more hopeful than anything.

...I still need a lot of practice on downchanges/ heel-toe as well....pretty clunky

:o :D Another member is on the PM with me about that procedure! Feel free to join in for tips :) Second or third day with carlimits will assist on this as well.

Drove the A283 down to Petworth and then the A285 down towards Chichester this weekend (and came back the same way. There seem to be a lot of nice roads (albeit short sections) around that area, so may need to do some exploring.....could take a lot of time to map out though......fantastic  :driving:  .

Anybody else have any decent roads they'd like to throw into the mix?

Loving the account of your trips and forced excuses to drive the car Steven. Sounds pretty much exactly my past few months :D

Let me know the best route you find!

The video on that scott walkers website is nice :)

We've got to get out on a "newbie" hoon at some point Jimmy!

Just to resurrect this thread:

Saw this article recently. the A283 listed as the 2nd best road in the UK. it's a good road but not great imo. Quite heavy traffic and pretty straight, only 1 decent NSL twisty section, maybe only 1 mile long:

http://www.driving.co.uk/features/top-uk-driving-roads-part-1/6821?CMP=KNG-content-taboola-Top-5-Best-Driving-Roads-In-The-UK#utm_medium=cpc&utm_source=_&utm_campaign=_

However, I've found some great roads in and around the A29, A281 and A272 in west sussex. Hoping to get a route sorted and try to organise a meet for next spring.

Anyway, if anybody has any input to the thread, let me know!

Me too! Am only 10 mins from Guildford...

I'll see what I can get sorted guys. I'm trying to configure a route that would fit all of my favourite driving roads together. It would probably Head North of Guildford towards the A25 , take the A25 along to the A24, travel down the A24 until the A29. Take the A29 down to Buckmore Corner, then cross country it to the A281. From the A281 we would travel cross country through to the A272. Then play around some of the roads around Goodwood (similar to the recent Kent cruise), then head back up to A283 towards Guildford.

Will need some refining, but that should be a pretty decent route for some scenic cruising around Surrey and West Sussex.

Sounds great! A nice mixture there and some decent scenery!

Well we can refine the route if need be and then get something in the diary for the new year perhaps! Would be good to put some faces to the names.

Yeh absolutely, once spring has broken we'll get going.

There are some great stretches of road around the SE and I want to find them all

My commute is awful! Luckily there are a couple of ways I can get to work so I try and change it a little.

I have a 2.5Si Sport. Silver Grey. Also a 2006. I got mine at the end of August so it's like new (to me lol)
