Afternoon all,

Started to correct ‘Bertie’s’ paintwork.

This isn’t a ‘total transformation’ in one go thread, I’m too busy and don’t have the time to dedicate all in one go.

There will be a few photo’s, but not of all the individual stages... I’m sure no one wants to see ‘iron ex’ turning purple or a dirty clay bay.

It thought I’d start by dedicating a couple of hours to the roof;

Washed
Clayed
Iron-ex
Another ‘quick’ Clay
2 passes with Megs ‘101 foam cut’
2 passes of Megs ‘205 Mirror Glaze’
Wipe over with IPA
Single coat of mid range wax - not a massive fan of super expensive waxes as I personally believe the result is 95% down to the preparation.

I forgot to take ‘Pre’ photo’s of the roof, so I’ve taken a couple of other parts of the car that are/were in the same condition. As you can see, plenty of swirls and tons of surface contaminants (captured in bottom corner of 1st photo)

I’ll add in some ‘after’ photo’s of the roof in a minute.

The final photo in the post above is ‘all reflection’

The paint has really come to life, Pearl effect is much more vibrant..... just need to do the rest of the car

There are a few swirls still present under direct sunlight, bit annoying as I couldn’t get my lights quite right... still, it’s 99% better :D

Looking good. 8)

Thank you,

With hindsight, should have stuck with microfibre pads... forgot how much hard work BMW paint is with normal pads

Top work right there! I've got to do my ruby-black paint again in the next two weeks, amazing how many swirls it's picked up over the last 2 years since I did it last :headbang:

Thanks Angelus,... hard work BMW paint, collecting new swirls is almost inevitable over time ‘two bucket’ method or not.

I do find it quite therapeutic, but I’d rather not have to do it too often. Think I’m going to order some new microfibre pads for doing the rest of the car... makes working BMW paint a fair bit easier

Looks amazing. Bet your neighbours think your a bit weird taking lots photos of your roof

I only took a couple with the car outside the garage, so I doubt anyone noticed.

There’s a forum called ‘detailiers world’ where people post loads of before and after photo’s... including Snow Foam, dirty clay bars, 50/50 shots....the lot.

I’m not as bad as that lot

Just as well really - you wouldn't have time to drive it!

Yours looks great though.

Great job, the shine and reflection is amazing. Can’t wait till you do the whole car. I’d hate it if my car looked like that....if it did, i’d probably keep it in the garage covered up.... :D

It’s definitely getting driven, I’m just dedicating a bit of time to get it how I want it.... not a daily though, weekend fun :D

Spent a bit more time on it today,.. no kids this weekend & Mrs out for a couple of hours.

Thought I’d sort the bonnet today, biggest panel, most work...

Has a few stone chips, which I need to touch in, but overall in good shape for a 2006
