Benefits of run flats...

I agree with the above, but I understand that run-flats are potentially safer if you suffer a high speed blow out, maintaining more control over the car?

Cheers :)

Theoretically this seems logical - though at high speed any explosive puncture is going to be bad news. I'd like to see some stats on how much slower or more controlled the blow out in an RFT is over an ordinary tyre - if it gives you more reaction time, even a few tenths of a second, it could be enough to save you from complete disaster. But I'd have thought any benefit is short lived... Think I might have a google on that actually, quite an interesting thought

By the way, has everyone with non-RFTs told their insurance company they've changed ? I haven't told mine yet, but they didn't blink when I told them my winter wheels were BMW rims with non-RFTs on...

Mine told me if the tyres were safe for the car it's not a modification, they couldn't even record it on their system

Yeah, my googling just turned that up. Also some suggestions that you will upset your suspension settings by going non-RFTs (from tyre retailers - yaaaaawn). Most of the arguments are based on mobility and convenience. Not material concerns. Oh, and apparently BMW 'soften' the suspension of their cars to compensate for stiffer sidewalks on the tyres

Pretty clear that  But are the Bridgestone Potenzas BMW insist on putting on the Z 3G RFTs ? I guess to improve the ride & handling you'd need to get a different band / newer type of RFT ?

I have just put Michelin PS3 non run flats on and they are great, so for now I'm happy. My Focus ST had standard tyres and no spare, had no issues.
