am i right in thinking the e85 has puny 4" drivers behind the seats and can you put say 6" speakers in without hacking everything to pieces ?

There's not a ton of room in the factory holes, but could be enlarged.

Went to a hifi shop the other day and they said about fitting a sub in the boot. Wasnt huge, but said it was the only proper option . Then you can get away with smaller mid range and standard sized tweeters.

Presumably an amp too to drive it, all good i agree, but was thinking of keeping it simple if possible, i wonder if a speaker could be built outwards like a housing of some sort.

just looking at the footwell, that has more promise maybe - is that a 4" tucked in there or maybe something larger ?

Have a look at Source sounds website in Sheffield RW, they did a budget Z4 a few years ago, might give you an idea.

Holst planets midnight middle of Bodmin moor, roof down, heavens above. Life doesn't get much better. :D

Not sure an extra couple of inches would make it any better. :P

Lucky we are not all the same

6x9 in mine behind seats....

The guy I bought the car from had Hertz components in the doors and foot wells fitted as well as the Hertz 6x9’s behind the seats. From source sounds in Sheffield... he left them in when he sold the car to me..

Sounds fab.

Are you referring to the smaller midrange speakers in the rear or are you referring to the subs? The subs are about 6" but the midrange speakers are 4". There's a good post on zpost about the different sound systems here - https://www.zpost.com/forums/showthread.php?t=63030 - in my opinion two 6" woofers is enough to play the bass in the small cabin of the z4, depends on how much excursion the woofers are capable of though of course.

i don't have any subs at all, i have the 2x 4" in the footwell and 2x 4" behind my head , i also utilised the empty 4" slots on the door and put a couple in there .

The footwell speakers are 6.5" not 4"
I have disconnected the 4" rear speakers as they do very little and installed Alpine components in the front powered by an amp. Big difference in sound.
