Just thought have a ring around and have the 108's refurbed,only to find two local refurb outlets wont touch 108's telling me wheels wont split as the steel on alloy bolts snap,wont touch them.
Do I have a go myself job satifaction and all that,but the thought of snaping a bolt or two!!!!
Anyone had 108's done in cambridgeshire.
Have been told wheel genie huntingdon,anyone used them.
Help.
 
Wheel genie are £85 per wheel. That is a Mental price.
Sounds stupid but I got mine done via Renault Cambridge at £40 a wheel and they were perfect, although that was a few years ago now..
 
Thanks Dean as you say mental price just dont fancy snaping a bolt,but would love to do myself.Even so if they go out to a company and they snap a bolt bet the price go's through the roof.
 
if your worried of snapping them soak lay them face up and apply releasing agent..... and leave them for a few day so that it can penetrate.... I never had any problems splitting mine i just took my time and did one wheel at a time
 
Deka sounds good need a spare wheel use car every day so one at a time. Did you have tyres removed,if so sounds like ditch RFT at the same time.
 
If you do have a go yourself heat is the answer to not snapping the bolts, I broke the heads off two working on cold wheels on a cold floor. I went over the rest with a heat gun untill the wheels were warm to the touch and the other bolts came off a breeze.
 
Soaked mine in releasing agent for a week as per Deka. Long armed tool and gently increase force on the bolt, try not to shock them.

£340 for all four wheels sounds a great price for a proper job. I've heard wheel genie in Huntingdon are top notch. Was thinking of getting mine done there but they quoted me £480 :?
 
I've split about 10 of these wheels and they can be difficult.

Never had one snap, but just one slip and you can round off the bolt head - done it twice and Very easy to do.

Use a long bar on the socket and make sure you keep the socket pressed-down hard - and take it steady you'll be ok. :wink:

If they won't refurb split rims they are either lazy or incompetent or both.

I once had a plasterer turn up to quote me for some work in a loft conversion but then said he wouldn't do it because I hadn't told him the ceiling was sloping. Reason was simply that he could get plenty of easier jobs with flat ceilings and better headroom. same sort of thing.

A true professional outfit will do 108s no problem at all. Though I reckon £80 to £100 is more likely the going rate per wheel. Powder coat and bake is what you want - steer clear of the roadside repair cowboys who do it out the back of a van without even taking the tyre off.

I had tyres off, but you can do it with them still on, one guy did it in the how too section just masking the tyre
 
For £100 a corner I'd expect tyres off rims split, then blast clean prepare and powder coat before oven baking. Then assemble fit tyres and balance before re-fitting to car. 3 to 4 days if done properly. There are many that paint wheels rather than use the powder coating process which results in a softer finish more prone to damage as your wheels heat up during use. Christ I'm boring the tits off myself never mind anyone else I'm going to get a glass of wine now.
