BCS Powervalve Exhaust - Customer Testimonial

Hi Guys,

I have had my Powervalve BCS mufflers fitted for almost three months now and thought I would share my thoughts. Here is the youtube I must have watched 50 times pre purchase that show you what they are capable of: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R--O36PFPmw&t=99s (fast forward to 55 secs) or watch Mr Wilks old car https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yM9-49RIjE8&t=11s (*I think they have been refined a bit since this vid)

Design

Firstly they are well made and a really nice design - They fit the bumper shape much more closely than the OEMS which I always thought looked too small.

Sound & Performance

I cant compare against others but for me they are ideal. Not boy racer loud like the RPi (arguably) but throaty and raspy compared to the OEMS. I went with these as I wanted something louder than the OEM and Remus. They have got slightly louder as they have bedded in and are not drony.....I could argue there is a bit of drone at about 1800 rpm but when cruising you wouldnt notice the exhaust upgrade thanks to the valve design. I have this married with a Gruppe M intake and its addictive as its a deep note until 3k, then all intake waaaarp 3-4, then it screams from 5.5k. Put it this way you can get noticed when you want and it puts a smile on your face. For those that want to know if they help performance.....I don't know specifically but it sounds faster and the noise goes well with how the car pulls. A perfect combination. I have had loads of comments and envy.

Fitting

This was easy as they bolt straight on. It took about an hour or so.....a bit of jigging to get everything lined up but got there in the end before my OCD kicked in.

Customer Service

Second to none. Nigel was a pleasure to deal with. He kept me informed of the build progress, even when he was waiting for parts to arrive and they arrived when he promised. The box was a bit mangled.....but that was Parcelforce fault and I think Nige is looking for other courier options now

CONCLUSION

I purchased these after months of consideration, referral by Mr Wilks and then speaking to Nige directly and it was clear he knew his stuff when it came to M cars. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend powervalve BCS for their product or service. Much better value than some of their competitors. My OEMs were in decent condition so I didn't need to change but it's been well worth the upgrade.

If you want a new set of mufflers BUY THEM......I now want to convince Nige into making me a similar quality mid pipe!

Great testimonial & listening to both vid clips still doesn't quite capture the real world tone , rasp & bark of these boxes yet can be quite restrained when you want
That first clip btw is also my ex Z///M :) hadn't realised Dan (DPG) had posted that clip online

Nice review. Is there a chance to make a video of the sound on your car? The more videos out there, the better for potential buyers. Plus, ear-candy. :driving:

I'm thinking of changing from my RPIs and these sound like a decent swap. Been thinking about switching for AGES but since I drive the car pretty rarely now i've not gone round to it.

I still dig them. Went for a B-road blast a few days ago, first time i've gone for a spirited drive in several months and they rocked. 6 cylinder scream bouncing off the rock faces, pops and bangs when letting off the throttle, the sound of the engine when heel-toeing... It's eye-wateringly good. :driving:

But for the daily grind it would drive someone crazy. Because I drive the car pretty rarely I don't mind but for example I drove it on the motorway for a couple of hours a few weeks ago and it really wore me down. I was used to it when I drove it all the time but having not driven motorway miles in a while it got very tiring very quickly...

totally get you.

Thanks guys. I'll try and do a video in the next week or so......I only have phone so may not be brilliant but will give it a go.

Nige was doing a forum deal at £780 when I purchased them and I think they are well worth that.

Are any of you going to the BMW Show at Santa Pod or any other shows this spring/summer and you can then hear the muffler and intake in action!

Hi Stu,
Is there any powervalve element to these? I always thought that needed turbo pressure to control the activation?

Or are they just regular backboxes?

Cheers
Chris

My understanding is that there is a valve built into each muffler that opens only under certain exhaust gas pressure. Hence if you just poodle around it almost zero's out the drone. Cheers.
