BBS 108s known to and/or prone to cracking?

Not long after I got the Z I had to get a new wheel after a crack was found on the drum part of the nsr alloy, having recently heard a squeek which I thought was a spring on the way out it turns out that another wheel has cracks in it this time the star part of the osr alloy :headbang:

Are these wheels prone to cracking or have I just been unlucky?

Im concerned about replacing at the silly price for a brand new one for same to possibly happen again if there's known issues?! So probably just look for a 2nd hand one or maybe change all the rims!?!

On the hunt for a rear 108 urgently so I can use car if anyone has one see my thread in for sale/wanted or comment below.

We've seen one or two crack, but as above if you are still on run flats it won't help, and ride comfort week suffer also.

Should be able to pick a used set in good condition for the price of one new wheel.

Id say not known for cracking & fairly robust by comparsion to other OEM rims :?
Why not have the split repaired if its possible ? Ive had a few rims professionally repaired with no issues

The star has cracks in 3 spokes so don't think it's repairable from a safety angle, one yes but 3 imo is too risky, the main part is also buckled I'm told!

Just querying the wheels as it's the 2nd one I've had crack on me (last one was not the star part of the rim though)

No run flats in use as previous owner ditched them and I've had it nearly 4 yes now!

Several front wheels on ebay but no single rears atm! If I can find a decent set I'll take the 4, there was one up last week but 2.5 hours drive each way to pickup (pick up only)

ooooosh :o never heard of a broken star before & in 3 places  that must have had one almighty knock at some point
I have a single rear but that aint much use to you i'm afraid
Sets come up all the time , keep looking on here

I have a full set of 108s in my lock up, I bought them with tyres on with the intention of getting them refurbished myself, but I managed to pick up a set from Mr Wilks. You can have the full set for £200, I am only up in Lytham St Annes. If the price is to high I an sure somebody on here will let me know

To the original post - it's extremely rare for these rims to crack. One of the most common and popular on the Z4

Corrosion is their weakness.

Buy a spare and get it refurbished or I possibly have a spare star if you need it

I might be interested in these if the OP isn't, will save me having mine off the road whilst I get my 108's done, and then I can whack some winters on the ones on the car..

Not a problem, just let me know, they have been in the lock up for ages, just never got around to getting them refurbished, don't even know what state the tyres are in, bought them for the wheels, so never even looked

Ideally I'm looking for just 1 if I'm honest!
If you want the set go for it as sets seem to come up regularly so I shouldn't have too many issues getting some if I do choose to go that way!

They seem to think the main part is buckled so if I'm going to replace I want to replace the whole wheel, but thank you for the offer of a star!

Your welcome.
If both parts are damaged them a replacement is best.

Just for the future rims can be straightened for <£50 a time so often a better option. I find one damaged on pretty much every tyre change these days.
