Battery question

Hi guys,

For the past 2 months, I've only been able to drive the zed around 3-4 times. I was wondering, has anyone had their battery die from under use? also, how bad is it for the dcar to drive the car this infrequently, in terms of engine and such. Thanks

It's pretty common. One of these works really well.

Such things will not bother it at all, provided you give it a run for long enough to warm up and it stays dry inside. Start to worry about issues if you park up for 6 months, then you need to consider various storage things.

Battery maintenance as per Citation comment is a good idea but probably not needed if the runs you make are long enough to charge it up.

One thing I would avoid is to just nip into the garage and turn over the engine regularly for a few seconds to 'check all is well'. This just damages things.

My Z4MC is rarely used in winter and I only fairly recently started to connect the battery to an intelligent charger, however now the weather is getting better I have started to use it more. To answer your question my Z has never had a drama with the battery even if it has not been started for several weeks without a charger, mind you it is kept inside a garage with a heater kicking in on a timer. I would occasionaly start the Z up and let her run until the temp gauge was at the correct operating temp and have always done so on the other beamers I've owed without a problem. Wether this is the correct procedure or not I do not know but my Z runs like a dream and go's like a bitch!!!! Yeah....

Just took it out for around an hour yesterday. Her purring is a bit off, but gonna take out again later. How long a drive is needed to charge up the battery usually?

Depends on how big a battery, alternator size, how many electrical items are running, how discharged the battery was, etc., however I'd expect a 20 mile run would be more than ample to both charge and get everything well warmed and cleaned up.

My battery went on my 2005 Z4 after about 2.5 years. Car is a garage queen and only had about 12-13K. I do have a V1, icelink, alarm system, and a gps hooked in to the system. I've been using the battery tende+ once a month just to make sure that the battery stays charged, BTW, when my battery went dead and i was still under warranty, BMW said tough sh*t, you don't use the car enough to keep the battery charged, and they wouldn't replace it.

Well i just got back from a months holiday and my Z has been sat on the drive all that time through all the snow we had while i was away and she started no probs had a run to the coast this morning and drove fine only thing i noticed the clock needs re setting
