Battery charging

Hi,

I've wanted a Z4 Coupe for a very long time, and finally bought one late last year. It hasn't been used much over the winter, and the battery isn't completely flat but doesn't have enough charge to start the car. Does it make any difference whether I charge it from the battery terminals or the connectors under the bonnet? I've got a Noco Genius 5 battery charger/conditioner if it makes a difference.

Nice first post, mr lurker!
With the e85/e86 I don't think it matters. You choose whichever is nearer/most convenient to you.

If you've got a newer e89 (or another newer BMW) with the batter management stuff and requirement to register a battery lark then you need to use the pins under the bonnet.

You can connect either direct or using the bonnet terminals. Assuming you get your battery back up to starting the Z4, it would then be worth keeping it up there. Once your battery level drops down bellow 12v it's not doing the life of the battery any favours. So always worth maintaining it up around or slightly above 12.6v when not used for an extended period.

I was going to say welcome to the forum until I read this!
Wow! That is a loooong luuuurk!
Hopefully the OP has found the forum useful in the intervening 12 years.

Assuming of course that they haven't been 'At Her Majesty's Pleasure' for all that time??? :D

But anyway: the sensible part of me is asking how old the battery is? If it's been allowed to drop that much then you run the risk of it not holding a charge properly again. Try the recondition, but be prepared to buy a new one.

Maybe it's the Andrew formerly known as Prince (unelected of course)!
