Basic Audio system - no sound from front

Hi guys,

As per the title, my new to me 2003 3.0 front speakers don't work. I believe this is the non-amp version as there is no amp in the boot and I have cubby holes behind the seats, under the speakers.

Having said that, there's an old receipt for £1k of audio upgrades in 2011. This included a Focal Polyglass VR3 6.5" system and Focal FPS2160 2 channel amp. If this amp is in the car, I don't know where. I don't see it by the battery. I can't tell if this is still in the car, or if things have been reverted to standard at some stage!

Car audio is generally a black art to me I'm afraid.

What I do know is ...

• The only speakers that work at the moment are the ones behind my seats. The fronts definitely don't work. If I adjust the fader fully forward I get silence.

• The multi-changer doesn't work - it wont eject and the system says no CD. I don't care about this aspect.

Are there any simple steps I can take to understand what the issue might be with the speakers?

I suspect if someone has butchered the stock system to add extra amps etc then stripped it all out before selling it you'll have a mission to get it working again. Unless you are handy with a multi meter I think I'd be taking to a specialist to sort out.
