Bad Monday

Hi guys, looking for your thoughts on this. I was meeting a client this morning half way through my hour long drive I hit the mkther of all potholes passenger side front left. I thought sh#t :headbang: in my defence it was dark and foggy as hell. Anyway less than 10mins later I get the Christmas tree lights on the dash, yellow lights everywhere, tracktion control, abs, handbrake light, tíre pressure light. Now I'm panicing so I pull in check the wheel all looks fine, restart the car lights go away... I think it's freezing cold maybe just an electrical bleep. No... No it's not that as I drive the lights come on again and I notice the brakes feel weird like they aren't stopping the car properly, and a crunchy sound when applying more pressure to them.

So after my meeting I crawl to the my indie and he says its the drive shaft. I only just had both abs rings changed last month, but he says the sensor isn't reading the speed correctly and when he read the graph it was way out. He doesn't think its the abs pump as there's nothing showing a fault for it. So he's recommended a new drive shaft so the abs ring reads more consistent. Does this sound right?

When those lights are on, the ABS is not working so that is the reason for the funny brakes probably.

Sounds to me more like the wheel sensor though rather than the ABS pump as you hit that pot hole.

You seem to have both ABS and steering warnings together with an Engine Management light to boot.
I cant think why if you hit a pothole with the front nearside wheel that you need a new driveshaft - for the rear. Unless the rear also took a pounding from the pothole - have you bent a wheel?

I personally would suggest you get the fault codes read properly before spending money on new a driveshaft , cant see how a driveshaft is going to clear all your lights? As for crunchy brakes - your car should still stop properly without an ABS pump and without wheel speed sensors - if its not stopping and crunching as well then it sounds like mechanical issue - metal on metal, check your calipers , discs and pads with a good torch.
You dont say where you are, maybe ask a member nearby to check for faults for you on either a handheld or INPA

And also, don't rush into buying what appear to be reasonably priced pattern drive shafts with reluctor rings fitted.
Have a look at this thread which I found to be of great help:

I bought new reluctor rings from ukpartsdirect.com. Great customer service and my mechanic said they were a great fit as well.
Good luck.

Thanks for the replies, that post is consistent with what my indie said the other day. He said the reluctor ring was spinning at different distances from the sensor and that's why he suggested a new drive shaft as there is nothing he can do to align the ring at the correct distance because there is to much corrosion on the shaft.
