Back Box Removed - brrmmm! WITH PRICES

Hya all. took the Z4 to Torque Flow in Birmingham on Saturday for exhaust work as i wanted some noise out of it.

Back box removed and some stunning stainless work, and larger twin exits. sounds AMAZING with a real "crack" when you blip the throttle, not too noisy at cruising (70 - 80) but for me a tad loud when accelerate from say 40 in 4th. learning where it is noisey and how to ease this.
I can go back to have a box fitted if its too OTT but all in all, its transformed the car from all induction to a nice rasp.
Had the roof down yesterday (yep, it was fresh) just because i wanted to hear it with roof down.. and WOW.. different car!
give Torque Flow a look up on Google guys, its the 2nd time ive used them and Imrans work is outstanding and very fairly priced.
Stolly

So have you just had the backbox replaced then - what's the difference with the new one?

How much did it cost if you don't mind me asking?

nope.. whole rear box removed! now its just a straight set of pipes with larger exits that completely fill the rear hole.
The difference is great, perhaps a bit loud for some, perhaps not for others. i elected to remove the box, see how i get on and Imran said he can easily put a small box on if i dont like it. he can tailor it to suit.
the blip from idle is fab and standing outside while he tested it n drove off... sounds fantasic.
Re cost.. im afraid youkk have to call him! youll be surpriseed tho! and the work (as ever from Torque Flow) is very very high standard.

yes, sound clip needed here, and...
:worthless: ;-)

when i got back from Torque Flow it was dark and as its been dumping snow all day and im not driving it... i aint gettin my as* wet laying down taking photo's !!!

i will however endeavour to get under and take said pikkies ASAP!

must say ..... its really nice to press on now though... paaarrrrrp!!!

What kind of engine is it? Don't you have any loss of performance in the lower rpm? Lack of backpressure due to missing backbox... Why not consider a sports back box and removing the mid muffler? Same effect but you probably won't have as much "bass" sound at low speeds...

A few other forum members have removed cats and silencers, hark on how wonderful the 'noise' is, only for some months later to remove the system or refit the deleted components

There's one thing sitting on a driveway revving the engine, there's another doing some real miles and putting up with the noise and the drone

I feel sorry for the neighbours on your and surrounding streets

i agree, my westy was measured on a trackday at something stupid like 100db, its great, sound is immense but if youve been out for a 3 hr blat and your just droning on the motorway or trying to drive through the town to ge home it just gets real annoying.

bear in mind that i also drive with a set of earplugs in to protect my ears a little it says alot about the noise.

mind you i still laugh like a little boy when i get the exhaust to pop and by pop i mean dump lots of unburn fule into it and get a little flame out of the can :)

morning all. i will try and get pikkies and vid up later, just wait for the fog to clear!!!
Having used the car for a few days i will probably take it back to have a small back box fitted, its a smidgen intrusive with noise with the roof up. i think its more resonance though as with the roof down, its lovely!

re pricing for all those wanting work.. Torque Flow have said the following....
Back box removal and custom back box made £210 plus tail pipes cost. you can choose from a range of tails, from £24 each upwards.
For same as mine (cut box off) and custom made pipes to exit £125 plus the cost of choice tail pipes. (no box)
if you have a go on You Tube and search Torque Flow they have a load of vids of the cars theyve done and have been magazine featured tons.. lots of BMW work. He's a REALLY nice guy as well !!

I can relate to the idea of removing the back box for better sound as well as the fact that it becomes a little annoying on longer drives... That is why I was considering installing a Guerilla exhaust valve, than you can choose whether or not you want to use your back box...

More info on the valve here:

With this your neighbours will be happier :poke:
