AUX Input retrofit

Hello, can someone advise how to add the AUX input to a Pro Satnav, plus CD changer set up. I have an 06 2.5si and want to use the iPOD. thanks.

You can buy the parts at the dealer, is about CHF40 or thereabouts.

Fitting would take about 30 minutes max, just remove the radio - add the aux block in the quadblock at the back, put the aux port where you want it (I like my port on the M under the dashboard above the seat heating points)

Hi, is there a default place for the aux port on the Z4M coupe. One of the ones i looked at was under the dash. I saw a pic on a US site that looked like the aux port came in a plastic molding, is this correct, as if you unclipped a blanking plate and slotted this one in?

Also if you have Navi which part do you need to remove in order to connect the aux port. I guess Z4um had a full description of this.

I plan on installing a Garmin Nuvi 350 into my Z4. I already have an iPod installed via the icelink set up through my radio. Question is: as the icelink already uses the radio connector, will there be an "interference" problem between the iPod and the 350. That is, will I be able to listen to the iPod and the 350 at the same time, or must one be shut of for the other to work?

Just found this really useful link. I'm still not sure of the ashtray holder is the same part for my Coupe, but the installation should be the same.

Do not, I repeat, do NOT follow these "easy way" instructions unless you have tiny little girly hands!!!

I attempted the so called easy way and it is very problematic. It is impossible to "feel your way" on the back of the radio and re-install the 4 block connector. And the sharp edges of the exposed sheet metal under the dash will leave you wounded and bleeding. Save your self a lot of trouble and remove the vent (can be done with a simple flat head screw driver, no special tool required as mentioned in the easy way insructions) and the radio and the whole installation will take you no more than 20 minutes.

Here! Here! I support 155. I first tried to install via the panel under the A/C controls. But as has been pointed out, although this really would make it an easy install, it is just too much of a hassle to get to the harness block. Removing the vents and the radio wasn't bad to do at all.

thanks to everyone, especially for the info on the part to order to put an aux input in the ash tray.

as mentioned in my first question, i have the pro satnav.. does this affect the installation? also, how does the system know there is an aux port? it is not on the standard source list as a default... thanks..

So what is the best way of removing the air vent without marking the dash? I know you said a flat head, but which place it the best place to attack it from?

Also the part number does not seem to work, anyone have a better one?

I have spoken to BMW and they only have the 1m or 0.5m cable, but they only cost £7.80 or something, no sign of the ashtray though. Amazingly cheap. I guess i will have to drill into my existing astray or something.

Right, but that is for the IPOD interface not the AUX interface which is what we are talking about. Many thanks thought for the help.

Excellent, thanks for that.

I am trying to make out the part number, is it

01 29 0 309 665

????????

OK so that part is not made by BMW anymore.

My friend found it on his ETK but BMW cannot.

Any chance you could put the BMW Ipod connector one back up please :) - just wondering if this could be a good alternative to the DICE / Dension kit for my Pro Nav equipped Z

hi folks,

picking up my z4 3.0 roadster on saturday. can't wait. I just joined the forum. hopefully i'll be able to contribute at some point rather than just ask questions.

oh man, i thought my prayers had been answered by the BMW ipod interface. unfortunately i have sat nav so it doesn't look like it's going to work.

oh well. looks like i'll have to look into the Dension. i'm thinking of the Gateway 300. has anyone had experience with it?

thanks

hi,

i have the profesional sat nav in my z4 and have just had a dension icelink plus installed. it is absolutely fantantic and i would recommend it to anyone.

the interface is much better than i first thought. I can scroll through artists, albums, and playlists all of which appear on the sat nav screen as i scroll through.

when playing , the title of the song appears on the screen. it's sometimes truncated but not a big issue.

i'd say go for the dension over the aux port. the ipod is in the glove box so it doesn't affect the OEM look.
