Auto wipers problem (not working, I think)

They work as soon as I turn them on (1st position) for one wipe, and they work once if I move the sensitivity adjuster up a notch (but not down), the rest of the time in this mode the wipers just sit motionless.

I'm pretty sure I have them because I have auto headlights and the little window just under the rear view mirror, in the housing for it (looks identical to the one on my old Peugeot 306)

Is there any common fault for these (did a quick search but couldn't see much, my terms are probably wrong)...

Thanks for any help. Was driving me mad driving home this afternoon, either too much wiper on position 2, or never-ending intermittency on position 1

You do have them they were standard on the 3.0 in the UK. Sounds like they are knackered though, try searching for rain sensor bubble

Yep, I have a huge bubble, the window for the sensor is probably 2/3rds bubble :D

Right, anyone know how to remove the rear view mirror inside so I can access the gel patch and try make it good again...?!

Thanks

Dave

Someone did manage to do it, can't remember now who it was :headbang:

Usually the cure is a new windscreen

Hmmm, looks like I split the casing behind the mirror (just clips), then start to remove more from there...

Just need to source a gel pad too, but I will try press the current one up to the screen a little better (even when new screen fitters put them in they seem to have to adjust these to get a good seal/finish, as I watched the last fitter do my screen in summer on my old car)

I also have a warranty on my current car, up to £1000 per claim, so could just get BMW to fix it (will need to read the uber fine print I assume)... afterall it is an electronic part, and a key function that needs fixing (no intermittency is bad news)

Don't fancy a new screen considering some of the threads I have read about bad refitting... ie, too low in the aperture...

Thanks

Dave
