Auto or manual?

Looking to get a coupe.

Whats the view on the auto?

Car will be used mainly for fun weekend driving and a short commute. I'd probably prefer a manual most of the time.

What's the auto box like for reliability? Assume there's a sport mode of some sort? I'm aware it won't be like a DCT. Can Birds fit an LSD to an auto?
 
I currently own a manual 3.0 2003 (which is for sale), and a 3.0si 2006 auto.

I went auto as i commute in and out of London during the week, the manual was tough work in heavy traffic.

I drove my manual the other weekend in the country side, so much fun and more involving than the auto, don't get me wrong the auto is a great car and i really enjoy driving it and the paddles deliver seamless power down.

But if it was a weekend bit of fun i would go manual.
 
Auto every time for me. There's always "sport mode" when I want to hoon, and normal for otherwise, although even in the latter a 3.0 is no slouch!

Im a massive automatic fan, it is the ultimate in comfy cruising, and relaxed driving. That said, I will never understand buying a sports car with anything but a manual transmission. Unless you are fortunate enough, to be able to afford both like Mark. Even then, thats a serious passion for the Zed to have 2 of them.

You will enjoy whichever you choose though, I'm sure! :driving:

I would go manual if you prefer a manual most of the time, I am currently running cars with autos and a day never goes by when I wish they were a manual, the auto is nice when stuck in traffic but for the rest of the time they are down right boring imo.
 
just buy the best condition and well looked after zed you can find in your budget regardless of the box, you'll not find a thread like this that doesn't descend into auto v manual battle chaos :D folk are passionate about both sides of the coin and imho you'll have fun in whichever you choose :thumbsup:
 
If most of your driving is fun driving I'd probably go for the manual.

I have an auto though and I am surprised by how much I like it, so I wouldn't rule it out. As said, its great for "dull" driving where you just need to get from A-B in traffic, but when you want, put in manual + sports and it's great fun, but in a slightly different way to a manual - but less skill is ultimately needed and you do relinquish a little control (i.e. no clutch).

Try both if you can.

I think that my auto is probably faster than a manual as I have a 4.08 ratio Drexler LSD - which, to answer the OP, is OK with an auto box. :)

Not all LSDs change the ratio though right? I don't think the Quaife does.
 
Mainly a weekend car. Then Manual all the way. :thumbsup: No harm in taking an auto out for a spin though. Just make sure it's on an open road. :driving:
 
when i first got car in winter, manual when cold gear change was awful, but with fluid changes and frequent drives it all forgiven.

The changes are firm but least it feels engaging. So quite happy with it now

Im not one for autos, i get bored

I think the answer above - buy the best condition on budget - is probably right as I can live with either.
