Auto gear knob

Apparently you grab hold of it and pull hard, taking care to avoid your nose and face in the process. I recently had mine changed at M-Style for the E89 knob and that was what they said they had to do. Good luck

Easier to stick it in drive, engine off & handbrake on.

Just lever it using a large screwdriver against a block of wood or something similar. Much easier than smashing yourself in the chops.

Does the auto come off the same way as the manual ?

Just a hunch but I wouldn't think so !
There are latches on the auto knob.
