Auto-dimming rear view mirror not working

Afternoon guys & gals

Typically, 1 month after expiry of warranty, the auto-dimming rear view mirror has decided to pack up and doesn't dim even with direct bright headlights following closely! Any-one had any such problems before?

I assume the sensor is the small rectangle of plastic in the frame immediately above the mirror itself? Unless there's another sensor under the glass surface? I've tried cleaning the mirror and the (assumed) sensor (& also driving in the dark with the roof down in case a dirty rear window was causing an issue), but with no joy. Is the mirror sensor in anyway related to the ambient light sensor that deals with the auto-headlights?

The strange thing is that I've noticed the mirror dimming under several other circumstances, noticeably when on an uphill slope, but this happens when there is no following traffic and during the daytime as well. Weird!

Any thoughts???

Mine doesn't dim much if i have the wind deflector in, Could try shining a torch at the sensor (at the top of the housing as you described) which would tell if it was broken or not. Suspect you just have it adjusted so the top sensor is not being hit by the light, most of the other cars have the sensor at the bottom now.
