auto changer removal

can someone point me in the right direction to remove the autochanger? i want to install the intravee but cant figure out how to get the cables though to the cabin.

my plan is to fix it and reinstall it so it has both. just leave it disconnected and potenitally powered down.
 
You need to remove the centre panel on the rear bulkhead (bit will pull down flap) to get to the CD changer if you want to remove.

You could do as others have done though and get to the plug from the boot. You would then need to mount the Intravee and alpine unit in the boot though.
 
That's how I've connected it I just can't see how to get the cable though to the car the only hole in the bulkhead is filled with the autochanger
 
I drilled a small hole in the plastic back of the centre cubby and fed the cables through there. Left the Alpine on the boot side cable tied securely behind the carpet so just the little Intravee box and my iPod in the cubby.

If you want to get your multichanger out you'll need to dismantle most of your car! Seriously though it's a stupid amount of time and effort for little benefit. Just hook up the Intravee and forget the changer.

Once you've done it once and know what you are doing it doesn't take long, but I agree BMW didn't make life easy on this one.
 
i dont have these spare cubbies, there a re quite a few posts about where people have drilled holes etc but these are both full on mine with the auto changer and the sat-nag drive.

i need to take the auto changer out anyway and see why its jammed

this is all i can get to in the boot so apart from maybe trying to fish the cable through i dont see as i have any choice. (bit blury as i had to hold the carpet)

anyone any idea what the two modules are back there? the large silver one is as light as a feather but pretty warm

 
The large Silver one is the TV module. Even if you have a Nav DVD and a CD changer in your cubby the very top slot will be free and the Intravee will fit in there.



You may need to drill the hole from the inside and use a bent coathanger or length of wire as a cable pull to get the connections up there from the boot but you can do it with a little patients.

The digital ones are £400 upwards second hand and you'll need the screen on the dash too.

You can get analogue TV modules for around £100 or less and these can be converted to digital but you'll still end up shelling out over £300.

I got my Zed in early 2012 and analogue TV was still broadcasting for a while so my TV function worked for a couple of months before the digital switchover. Was quite cool to be able to watch telly while the missus was in a shop or something (or whatever they do when they get out of the car).
 
how did you convert to digital?

who was the thread recently who took the centre cubby apart and had pic on how to do it?

i remeber one where they could get in via the speaker slot behind the seat

how easy is it to get the cover off the cubby. i was going to try and run a cable all the way up the car to the ash tray, once Ive got the cable up there i am going to make a cradle for it all (i started with a little dock but realised it probably doesn't have all the right connections). the intrave itself i have attached to the bulkhead using Velcro but can easy move that elsewhere.


although looking a your pics there maybe i thread the cable under the auto changer....
