Audio Install

I've been listening to the standard sound system long enough now, gods its awful!

After doing bits of research on real oem, ive finally decided to upgrade the Whole system, but in batches. £££££

Going to be fitting 2x Hertz 8inch subs behind the seats. and a hertz 3 way up front.

First step is to remove the trim to get to the rear bulkhead. Watch this space for updates coming shortly, starting this install next week! :D

Sounds good, keep us updated!

I've already added extra door tweeters to give a sharper top end.

Just the 400W amp and Alpine sub to fit now ;) come a dry day.

I'm looking at doing this too. Had mine in and out of the BMW garage more times than I care to remember with speaker problems. All replaced under the AUC warranty but it hasn't filled me with much confidence in them.

After waiting a while for the right tools, and more importantly the right weather, Ive finally got it started!

This is the zed about to go under the knife.

Audio kit comes today. Will post with more updates soon.

Liking the look of this so far. I'm just mid way through doing an upgrade to mine. I will take some pics and report back but I won't crash your thread.

Is is going to look OEM? Mine will look almost as standard when complete but with a much better sound than the basic setup which I got the car with.

Excellent choice on equipment!

What route are you going down for processing/amplification?

Why have you taped the left and right bulkhead areas? ( I get covering seats etc to stop marks )

Allows the fibreglass to come off more easily.

Does that void in the middle go right through to the boot? I haven't got the extended storage on mine but I'd like to be able to take the roof down whilst keeping my golf clubs in the boot. Dealer told me the extended storage couldn't be retro fit but looking at that picture, maybe it can even if I have to do it myself/pay someone to do it?

God i wish i lived near you! firstly would love to meet someone who can strip the trim down! id love a new audio install but i've also got an awful creaking that i can't find due to not wanting to rip all the rear trim out!

Ah I didn't realise he was putting fibreglass in there, presumably to improve acoustics? Will that stuff flex as the chassis flexes then?

Mattstav - Yes that hole goes straight into the boot. Only the carpet wall covers it from the cabin side and the wall liner on the boot side.

Don't know if you could retro the ski pass thru but it could be interesting to try.

Looks to be for enclosures for the woofer themselves. I'd assume they would flex to a degree (given that wooden enclosures are preferred over fibreglass)

I'm going for a processor and amplification. Using an audison bit ten. 2 amps, a 4 channel and a monoblock.

I think it would be possible to retro fit it, no reason why not, its only a panel with a cutout.

Picture updates!

Heres the kit

Starting to fit, needs more woodwork, to make trim panels. tempted to build a ski hatch myself, what do you think?

What do you guys reckon?

No offence but will the seat still recline far enough for you? I couldn't live with seats which I had to have too upright just to have subs in the cabin.

But Hey, it's your Z4 after all.
