Hi everyone,
Well it's been a while since I posted but thought I'd give you a little update on the going's on with the S5. Some of you may remember the initial issues we had, not only with the dealer but with the paintwork and overall prep of the car when it was sold.
We've since then tackled the persistent condensation issues that leave the inside of the car very fogged up. The dealer had the car for 3 days and ran various tests and found nothing out of the ordinary so it was returned to us and we were told to 'keep an eye on it'. The very next day when I left work, it was steamed up again.
We've deliberately been keeping the car indoors over the winter to bring the mileage down. It was averaging a 1000 miles a month before we got it so decided to reduce this down. That also meant we had some scope for a road trip - which I will get on to in a minute.
I detailed the car a few weeks ago, spent a long time, prepping it and giving it a good deep clean including a good clay bar session as well as a polish and wax seal. It took over 6 hours to get it done but wanted to feel like I'd put some effort into it. I must admit it does clean up well and the sepang blue pearl is lovely when shiny.
Last weekend I was putting some bits in our 'roadside bag' in the boot when I felt that the carpet was wet. I then opened the compartment on the left hand side that houses all the electrics and this was wet too. The passenger door sill was also wet - this was before I washed the car! However, the drivers side was dry including that side of the boot.
We videoed our findings and took some pictures and sent them off to Audi in Camberley. They came and collected the car the following Tuesday and it's been there ever since. It took them 5 days to find the potential leak and it appears that they've had to replace all the seals on the roof to try and eliminate the water ingress.
They are apparently completing this work today and will then look at the door seal as well as the squeaky brakes. They are very loud when the car is cold and crawling at slow speeds. The guy at Audi said that we would be charged for stripping and cleaning the brakes. However, once we'd explained that the car is only just over a year old and has 8300 miles on the clock we hardly think that's acceptable. He agreed and said he'd add it to the list.
So we shall see what they come back with. They are aiming to have the car back to us on Thursday but I'm not holding my breath. I've said they can keep it as long as needed to ensure it's as it should be.
Road Trip :
So, given that the two Z4's we had before the S5 never had chance to venture too far, we've decided to put some miles on the Audi this summer and take it on a road trip to Lake Garda in Italy.
We depart in July from Dover and sail to Dunkirk and then drive to Frankfurt to stay with friends. Then onto Munich to see other friends there and then down to Lake Garda for 5 days at a nice hotel for some R&R.
Then the return leg is into the mountains to stay for two nights at Garmisch-Partenkirchen at a very traditional Bavarian lodge. The next stop is Cologne and then a stint back to the ferry at Dunkirk and home. The trip is over 2000 miles, plus a few more for touring about whilst we're away. I hope that given some proper driving and a chance to enjoy some real open top weather will finally make me love this car. Otherwise, I fear it might move on next year and be changed for something else.
Anyway, I just thought I'd give you a bit of an update as to where we're at. Thanks for reading.
I haven't taken any new photos of this one as yet so here's the signature enlarged again

Thanks
Dan
P.S - I really, really miss my Z4.
