AUDI R8 V10 SPYDER TEST DRIVE !!!

My brother works for Audi and has been telling me for ages that once they have a demo car available i can take it for a spin. So on Saturday that's exactly what i did.

I am going to struggle to put this into words, but holy s**t that thing was unbelievably quick, the car had the s-tronic paddle shift gearbox which was also amazing. The most noticeable thing was the noise, even when down-shifting the gearbox automatically blipped the throttle, with it being the spyder you can lower the glass wind deflector even with the roof up to hear the v10 roar even more, it was totally addictive and something you could never get bored of whether you are a petrol head or not.

Everything about the car was so precise, the steering was so direct and it really felt like a precision piece of kit, well expensive kit @ £117000. Although 4WD, the rear is very tail happy, and is very RWD biased  . The ice on the roads didn't help me thinking that any moment could lead to me going through a hedge so took it steady on most parts, but with the opportunity to overtake on long straights on the country roads it was something i will never forget! ............................(i doubt the guy i overtook will either !)

i have been lucky enough to drive a Gallardo and a Murcielago on a track but its totally different when you take something like this out on the road, it just felt soo much faster !

Anyway, there is a picture below that my mate took as i drove back in, you can tell by the grin on my face how much i enjoyed it. i thought i would share the experience as i know some of you guys would enjoy reading this sort of stuff, because i know i do...

the noise was brilliant, even when just taking is slow and just dropping a gear the 'blip' provides enough noise. god knows how it must sound at full revs, thunderous ?

Yeah it's a shame the weather wasn't better so you could give it a bit more of a thrash, although with something as fast as that it'll always be difficult on the public roads.

Love the wheels. Bet it was an awesome engine note :sweetheart:

I just received the R8 brochure on Saturday. I prefer the 5-arm double-spoke wheels in titanium finish. Even a V8 coupe model with few carbon options and sat-nav will cost over £100k. Approved used V8 still starts from £58k.

Daytona grey with carbon sigma sideblades, black fine Nappa leather with carbon sigma inlays is the combination of my dream R8 coupe (with R tronic). :D

My uncle has the original v8 model and boy is that car quick, so can't imagine the v10! :o

I'm with ksher... much prefer the v8 wheels.

You lucky lucky lucky..... Looks just awesome, in my mind the most useable supercar manufactured today. I want one

I would love to own an R8 at some point in the future, but not the Spyder. A terrific car though. :driving: :sweetheart: Agree with others - wheels look A-MAZ-ING !

The girl i used to date has a company car scheme at work which allowed her to book weekend test drives 6 times a year with no commitment..... and as she lives in london doesnt own a car; so used to used them whenever she needed a car - weddings; weekends away etc.

Cut a long story short we had an R8 one weekend (not the spyder though) And it was fantastic. Very practical (for what it is); with decent storage; the shelves behind handy for little things; and the engine bay at night

I loved it; the only thing which puts me off is the interior; which is typical Audi (which isnt bad but for a £100k car i would something a little more special - and not something the same as a 20k A3)

Also got loads of looks driving in Derby (as unlike London they arent too common here) - but not in the same way as the Z; where they want to race you every chance!

There are massive discount's on the V8 as I found out after a test drive :o

Never keen on buying an expensive car from a make that also sells 15k models. At least with the Porsche, the entry models (Boxsters) are at least decent.

It's a great car to drive - many good things about it - although not sure on the cabin anymore (not that special) and the TT seats - should be more bespoke ones. And also the front overhang on the Spyder is very very short, looks a little odd, even for a car that has mid engine, it's still very short.

It's a great car.....and a beautiful engine note. Shame on the Spyder you can't see the engine thru the rear glass, like you can on the Coupe....

Ford GT.

At least that one breaks down as often as any other Ford :)

I think Toyota's approach for the Lexus worked ok. If Audi had a dedicated "high end" dealership, it would benefit sales.

i know what you mean about the interior, as amazing as it is - the first thing i noticed was the window button that looked as if it was from an Audi A3. There are other seats available (like the ones in the RS Models) but they do cost a fortune as an option.

And yes, i would also prefer the coupe over the spyder as well !

Hmmm I dunno. I think Audi have done a great job with with the R8 and Mercedes with the SLS. What have BMW done...? :?
