Can this option be coded ? I always drove with screen down but whenever you altered radio channel or CD choice the screen popped back up  admittedly its been a while since my last 85/86 but doesnt the screen pop up when you alter volume on steering wheel ??
Whatever i could never work out how to completely store it down .

Congratulations Simon.

Personally I don't find the Sat Nav dash offensive, and like Beedub I usually keep it stowed unless I want to change stereo settings or look at the OBC.

I don't use the stereo much (the S54 is too good a soundtrack) but when I do the screen pops up and I just stow it again. I don't remember it opening again when I've changed the volume.

The gent that does all the ghost alarms at work and big audio installs did something as mine doesn't open at all unless i press the open button at the top. its always flat. I have no idea what he did , ill ask when hes back in the shop midweek.

Never seen someone flimper a dash before :?
I absolutely do think its the way ahead!
Anyone wanting to get rid of the clunky old Sat Nav should consider this.

Of course, the fact I have a good standard dash for sale is irrelevant. :D

I would really like a plug and play option to update the oe sat nav screen to one with better resoloution/brightness- one that doesn't lose the other controls/readings, but perhaps incorporated apple car play, or touch screen.

I think the best options are an android based system, but I no longer have the time to try and figure it all out. I've also seen someone swap out the screen for a phone behind the bezel.

For now I am using Alexa Car to give an auto audio standard bluetooth connection so I can play sat nav directions through the audio - but its not perfect.

Long, long time ago I sourced the part numbers and browsed ebay for retrofitting the satnav, as some fellow forum members had had balls to cut the dash. Luckily, chickened and just fabricated a phone holder for my cell phone with nav software. Still have that 9300i communicator in a drawer…

Wow that is not the work of an afternoon! I certainly think it will be worth it in the end though.

A couple of hours in reality - in hindsight I’d have removed the seats just to make access a little easier.

That’s good going in a couple of hours! I hope you will be adding lots of anti squeak padding when you put it all back together!

That's impressive dismantling Simon - you're a braver man than me!
