Ashtray lid won't close

My ashtray lid isn't closing. Everytime I close it, it just opens up again. Is there anyway I can fix that, even if its a kludge... Its pissing me off, actually thinking about gluing it shut even.
 
If you take out the whole console button assembly, which the ashtray is part of, then you will see how the hinge locks. One of the locks must have fallen off...

or a coin is caught behind the lid
 
Ok I removed the whole ashtray unit and I did find 2 coins underneath but my ashtray lid is still not closing. I also couldn't find the hinge lock in the jpg above, I would replace the whole unit but I was told it would cost me like 300$ here in Kuwait. Not really worth it just to fix the ashtray lid... maybe I should just use some bluetack
 
Please take some pics of the locking mechanism.
While changing the center console I think I broke the ashtray lock :(
 
Not my situation.
Before dismantling half a car to install the new trim it was working perfectly, after it didn't.
So it's 100% my fault :headbang:
 
I found a fix for it.

1) remove ashtray panel from console

2)remove the back cover held by the SILVER screws(torx)

3)locate the thing marked in green(shown in pic)

4)adjust so it catches when the door is closing Thats ALL I had to do on mine and it works perfectly!
 
I just did the lid fix today, and was wondering from you guys if there's supposed to be a tiny light bulb that will illuminate the ashtray compartment when its opened???

yes it's attached in a slot so it shines through the ashtray. a small LED

no I just know it's there. Its a part of the entire cig lighter wiring harness so you might not get lucky with replacing just the LED it self. meaning u might have to get the whole harness or ashtray assy.

luckily when i checked it again...i saw that little light and wiggled it slightly...and then there was light!!!!...oh man if that thing needed to be replaced...that would of been no bueno.... :|

This is weird.
This evening I was driving my car with a friend of mine and I was explaining him that Saturday I'd have to take out the ashtray to fix the closing mechanism.
He tried by pushing the right corner of the ashtray, while closing, and... It remained closed.
I tried a few times more and it works.
I do not know why and how but now it's ok! :crazydude:
