Asda petrol?

I spotted Asda selling unleaded at around 128p a litre yesterday and it appears it's a national thing.

But do Asda do a super unleaded suitable for the M?
Shells regular petrol is still around 133p, never mind the V-power prices.

Asda is about 200 yards from my local Shell garage, and the Shell garage always seems to stick to ±1p/litre of the Asda price for normal unleaded.

However when it comes to super (97 for Asda and 98+ for Vpower) then there's almost a 10p/litre difference.

I still use the Shell garage though, as even for a 50 litre fill-up, it's only £5 extra on a £65 fill.

i've used my local asda for last 5 years for petrol and diesel never had a problem thats on 2 z4's, 1 tt ,1golf gt tdi and 1 freelander but misses has twice put petrol in at tesco's and it has affected the z4

Asda don't do super unleaded I don't think, which is why I've never used them. Sainsburys 97 is absolutely fine though, and the same price, typically.

Ran the M on tesco 99 for 12 months without issue.

£5 extra every weekor so is quite alot tbh.

Hmm, it's a shame the nearest Tesco looks like it's from a third world country and I'm not even sure it sells petrol. The nearest Sainsburys is pretty out of the way and I'd spend half the price difference just getting there. V-power it is for now.

I'm 'lucky' enough to have a wide variety of petrol stations near my house!

So, got a question - should I take the guilt I feel when filling up with 95 RON petrol seriously ?

I'm with Hark, £5 a fill is quite a lot more in my world, but if it's going to break something then I'd rather bite the bullet. I am mentally prepared for a comprehensive lecture on how I am abusing my P&J :D

general consensus is to run the S54 engine on super unleaded but other engines should be fine on normal stuff.

The lack of petrol station particularly in rural areas is getting quite an issue especially with the volume of traffic on todays roads there are now around 10000 petrol stations in the country whereas back in the 1960s there wer nearly 40000.

Agree - we have one gas station in the town near us and the next nearest ones are about 12 miles away......

Only thing I would add is try and stick to the same fuel as swapping seems to make the O2 sensors fail for some reason.

I see the sense in this. Now that I'm using Sainsburys 97, I won't change to anything else. I've very rarely been caught out with having to fuel a car with something else.

it's not just the ron you need to be mindful off, it's also the age of the petrol. They lose their ratings over time.
Almost all BMW engines will benefit from the cleaning additives and the higher RON rating found in super unleaded regardless of brand.
Naturally some are better than others.

This. 100 times this.

if you want to get the best petrol prices in your area then check out petrolprices.com, Asda usually the cheapest in my neck of the woods, but prices do fluctuate quite a bit.

Even has an iPhone app if that is your thing...
