Armed beach patrol

I had a few days on the beach in Biarritz as usual during my holidays at the house in France , the main difference I noticed this year was 4 armed to the teeth soldiers and a gendarme patrolling the town and beaches , I'm not quite sure if it made me feel safer or more vulnerable !
It's a strange world we live in these days .

Something we'll all have to get used to I'm afraid, it's going to be like this for a long long time I think. As you say a strange world indeed.

A tricky one that, but as a token gesture to provide an anti terror threat, its more reassuring than nothing at all I guess.
Wondering whether we'll ever see anything like that on UK beaches?

Difficult, as our police aren't armed as a matter of course, unlike French etc. We do already have it all major airports of course, but to expand into other tourist areas would involve a massive investment in training and equipment.

I believe we have more surveillance cameras than most first world countries on the planet too. :wink:

I'm currently in Rome and the place is swarming with armed troops. Train stations, monuments, crossroads and every underground station. Even armoured cars on the streets!

no one seems bothered but they do get lots of looks and comments
