I was thinking about attending a driving class and they said if I were to use my car the roll hoops have to be functional. Anyone know for sure?

Will it be the hoops or your head that stops you from getting crushed if you roll over?

I know some verts that have "roll hoops" but they are just for looks.

The rool hoops are fully intergrated into the frame of the car and can support the weight in case of an overturn.

Where and when? I like to watch through to lens of a camera.

They stop your head getting crushed if the cars rolls... sound funtional to me :)

I have driven in a BMW CCA HPDE in the past and will again Aug 11~12 at Heartland Park road course. Each chapter's Event Master will decide if you the driver and your Z4 roadster will drive. Z3's and E46 cabrio's are not allowed for example. Neither have adequate rollover protection.

Anybody else of the opinion BMW could have done something better with them than throw those grey plastic covers over the hoops?

They are funtional, but many car clubs will not allow the Z4 or Boxster on the track claiming that the hoops dont extend high enough to meet requirements. So while some tracks may not allow you to drive the car, you wont get squashed in a serious flip-over

Each BMW CCA Chapter has the authority to allow Z4's to participate on the HPDE's. Here in the Kansas City Chapter, we allow them. Porsche does, Audi doesn't. I recommend contacting your BMW CCA Chapter. They will advise if you and your Z4 can participate and if they don't they certainly should direct you to a club that will; it is a small community.

Have fun and be safe.
