Are isofix or passenger airbag switch retrofitable?

Not sure if retrofitable is a word. I don't think it is. lol

Wondered whether these things are built in to the car or whether they could be retrofitted.

Coudl be useful as we will be trying for kids in the next year and so maybe I'd be able to keep it for more than 12 months. lol

Passenger airbag deactivation can be retrofitted. Part No. 61 31 0 301 888 for models up to 01/06 (£55). Part No. 61 31 0 411 229 for models from 01/06 (£55). But prices exclude a new centre console trim required.

ISOFIX is the feature of the seat.

Hi all, I have asked this exact question in another recent post however as this thread has received better responses I hope it's ok to comment here. The answers given so far are encouraging but is it still possible to hear from someone who has actually carried out this procedure just to help clarify exactly what is involved....anyone?

Do you really need that center console trim? i think its only a light; only pic i could find - its the circular light to the left of the gear shift:

I have this feature on my car.. which acording to the new car invoice was £50 on top.

I'd imagine getting a dealer to add it will cost hundreds due to the labour to remove the trim.

Go to you local dealer parts guy and ask him to print off the instructions for you to peruse.......

E85 are reference 01 29 0 411 230
E86 are reference 01 29 0 301 890

These are the instructions he/she will print off and give to the 'technician' fitting or when you buy the various parts. At least this will give you an idea of what you are looking at in terms of work required. It looks to be simple 'plug and play' but as with all things BMW might need coding. As for the Airbag Off Indicator this is a legal requirement in the UK so needs to be in a visible location hence its current position next to the gear lever. There might not be a need to remove the whole center trim - remove the leather gear lever cover and you can get access to the under part of the trim sufficient I think to enable fitting of the indicator and connection of the cable which will need threading through from the center dash - fiddly but possible I think.

Have a look at this thread as well.....

Just to say this is not possible, you will have to remove the centre console if you are going to locate the indicator here. The centre console is solid aluminium with both the brushed Ali and Carbon Leather trims, and no doubt solid in piano etc.

Thanks for shrutch - wasn't sure

I'm currently looking at '06 Z4s on Autotrader and need Isofix on the passenger seat.

(Not for a baby but for a 5yr old.)

On reading a lot of the descriptions on the 'interior/exterior' info tab,

ISOFIX/Airbag deactivation is always listed but

if there happens to be a photo at the correct angle on the advert...
there's often no sign of a deactivation button by the gearstick.

(Because I'm assuming Isofix&airbag come hand in hand)

Am I right in thinking that the Autotrader database fills
in the 'interior/exterior' info tab automatically?

(With the incorrect information it seems...)

So it looks like its going to take a fair bit of effort to find not only the right model car
But also making sure it has Isofix too... :|

..

The thing you see on the left side of gear stick is just an indicator nothing else! The actual airbag deactivation switch is in the side of dash when you open the door.

Ah i see...

but surely having the de-activation switch requires the indicator to be present.

(Health and safety requirement perhaps...?)

But surely you don't need to deactivated the air bag for a 5 year olds seat? I thought you only needed to do it for a rear facing baby seat?

Hi Greeno,

Yes, you're totally right,
I wouldn't need to deactivate the airbag for the forward facing child seat

- But I'm taking it as though Airbag deactivation and ISOFIX came as one inseparable option.

Without being able to see a 2006 brochure to see the options checkboxes,
and if de-airbag and ISOFIX were separate options...I'm in the dark.

(I'm so sure Autotrader is auto-filling
all '06 Z4 descriptions with ISOFIX/Airbag included.)

And then its a matter of getting the seller to physically check for the hoops.
:|

I thought all cars post 07 had isofix standard.

Also you are correct isofix and airbag deactivation were one option... So the easiest way to visually see if it has isofix would be if you can see the airbag deactivation light on the center console.

Does anyone have the part number for airbag deactivation light ? I just bought centre console from Midlifecrisis and was gonna fix start button in the predrilled hole but now may consider retro fitting airbag deactivation.......

Dunno if youre still looking, but the indicator lamp (the bit in the middle console) is 61316954788. Youll also need the switch in the passenger-side door trim 6131919196886 and possibly (early cars should have this already) a cable loom 61120411235.

If you find anyone selling any of this let me know. These parts do not seem to be available new any more. Ive got hold of a switch via ebay, but I need the indicator lamp (as far as I can see my car has the cables pre-installed - Its a LHD 2004/05 3,0i)
