are expensive details a waste of time and money

Me personally I would just go for an enhancement so you have a great shine and the swirls are faded! The trouble is with a full correction it's a lot of money and no matter what method you use to clean the car you will inflict swirls! A good glaze is not a bad idea!

Don't use chamois either! They're TERRIBLE!! They won't take any last bits of grime away from the paint surface, but instead be dragged across it! A proper automotive drying towel is one of the best methods.

It never ceases to amaze me the number of times I see a 70k RRS Autobiography being washed in Aberdeen's shopping mall carpark with the same sponge that has been used to clean 30 other cars that morning- SWMBO has banned me from ranting about it if we go shopping.

Mind you I'm a changed man- fairy liquid and a cheap sponge have been used in my youth!

I am considering a UPS brown respray.
Something that mud fails to mar.

I am never ever buying sapphire black again.

One of the reasons I sold my roadster (carbon black) was because of the swirls. It doesn't matter what you do they always come back... :headbang:

I'd imagine red is another swirl magnet too.

I then went for everyone's favourite 'sepange' which being turd brown hides all stains and being apparently the worst colour ever for a z4 also dares to reflect no sunlight :D

Yep..

It took me 20 hours or so to correct my sapphire black roady..... Its been fine for 5 months or so now and i wash it twice a week, sometimes the odd QD too.....

Now i whizz over it with PB blackhole and it keeps the swirls and marks to a minimum....

In the new year im going to do paint correction as a sideline..I have seen many people charging big money (£700-£1000) for full correction but the number of people that will pay that is minimal..
I think a lot more people would pay £200 to have a 2 day correction detail that would erradicate 90% of defects...

Tell you what, if you are anywhere near Kent, actually (can) do this then you have your first customer

It would be worth spending that money as a pre-sale tart-up...

Sorry fella i aint....I live in the High Peak..Close to Cheshire/Manchester/Yorkshire/Derbyshire border........

I do have family that live in Sturry so if im visiting i will give you a shout ..

Edit..

Funny you bring up the pre sale tart up as i was gonna offer this as a service to private customers... Do a paint correction/polish and wax then trim with leather feed and finish off with wheel/tyre cleaned and dressed...

Cool

One doesn't need constant polishing of the paint, it's all in the washing technique, an art form too often shortcut.

Absolutely bang on, the more time you spend rubbing cloths on the paint the worse it gets. A good and careful wash with 2 buckets is the best detailing advice I think...
