Appreciating your Z4 more...

All it takes is to drive a POS for a weekend and you realise just how good the Z4's are :driving:

Needed a hire car on a weekend away down south and booked the cheapest option. Got given the keys to a Hyundai i20 :( but it stank of petrol so our replacement was a brand-new 12-plate Corsa 1.4 SE. Not bad, or so I thought. Nice interior but utterly gutless, no "handling" to speak of, and - to top it off - crap on fuel. The fecking thing needed 4th gear to maintain 70mph on the rolling hills on the M20/M25. At least if it's been economical I could've forgiven it, but 39mpg from a 1.4 litre small hatch over a 350-mile mix of mainly motorways, A-roads and a bit of city driving? I estimate my 3.0 Z4 would do 35-36mpg on same driving.

But the bloody thing had more toys than my Z4! Heated seats AND heated steering wheel, in a Corsa!

I'm stuck in a diesel at the moment, can't wait to get mine back so know how you feel.

Heated steering wheel though? In a corsa? Mental.

Are you sure it was heated? It wasn't just your rage at missing the Moffat meet and having to make do with a Corsa building up? :poke:

Definitely heated! Just the hand grip areas at the 3 and 9 o'clock positions but very effective. We reckon hire companies must get good deals on specced up cars as there's no way half that kit was standard: half-leather heated seats, heated steering wheel, half-glass roof, 17" alloys, cruise control, leccy windows and auto lights/wipers.

Still a gutless POS though!

And "up ye's" re missing the meet! Don't rub it in too much as I'm hurting enough at missing it without seeing the pics and vids :D

I was given a Jaguar XF as a loaner 2 weeks ago. On the surface a pretty nice car until I sat in it. Basically poverty spec, yellow/ beige leather with pine cladding as the pannelling on the centre dash and door. Made me feel sick. 2.2 4 cylinder diesel made it feel sooo slow...

Add to it 17" winter tyres and the whole experience was hideous.

Glad to get back to the Zed or my XF :)

XF sounds horrible...

Hope that was either someone with awful taste, or the last one off the line on a friday...

"Here comes the last one - what's left in the parts bin Dave?"
"Um, let me check the bottom of the barrel... ...sauna-effect pine trim, gold paint, two deck-chairs, some 24" wheels from a Hummer, and a stubby"
"Great - someone on that Z4 forum is sure to take it"

You should've popped off the M20 to Maidstone for a coffee at my place a11y - could even have sorted you out with a quick 'fix' in mine :D

Ally - a heated steering wheel? Bad news if you want to eat choccy in the car - you'd get a chocolate covered steering wheel! And ah, you were in the lovely suburbs of the South East. Did you see any rude Londoners? :)

Yeah sometimes its easy to forget how good zeds actually are....

Driving a bucket every once in a while puts things in perspective

Well sh1t - how mad is that ! If you are down this way again definitely give me some warning / a call

TBH we were out the evening as we had to go to/from Milton Keynes for Wee Bing's birthday pressie in the afternoon - indoor skydiving, which was very cool (for him and his mate, I only spectated :( )

I use hire cars every month, and every time I get back to the airport car park at the end of my trip, and see the Z4MC, I know I'm 'home' :-)

I was given a base spec mini as a loaner by BMW...i hated it, that big dial in the center of the dash...its too reflective and it was a distraction out of the corner of my eye constantly. Loved getting my Z back.

Mrs hot ride had a Toyota Camry work car, I hated that thing was completely gutless 4 cylinder in a large family car, and the bouncy suspension felt like driving a boat through corners.

She has the ford focus now 2011 model, handle slightly better and the gearbox is very smooth, but still just as gutless and uninspiring as the Camry, makes me remember just how much I like the z4.

Don't write them all off. I can imagine that the 2.2 diesel must be gutless. I had a 3.0 S with 20" alloys for two years and it was awesome for a family car. Went Premium Luxury plus a few extras so had lots of toys and power to spare. The auto gearbox was sooooo smooth. Got to be careful about the colours though - couldn't help but notice other XF drivers all seemed to be +50 years old who perhaps like the burgundy and champagne colours.

Hired a KIA something or other the other week in Europe & while not the fastest thing on the planet, did most other things far better than I ever expected - 1.5 hours each way from the airport, 5 days wandering around locally, just drank £20 of fuel & the thing was very comfy.

Hate Vauxhalls & Renaults, had nothing but pain with the couple I've owned, hired or borrowed, including my partners Diesel Corsa, so totally feel yr pain... lol

The clue is in the last 2 letters of my post. I drive an awesome porcelain white 3.0s PL top spec. on everything from sports interior to 20" Senta's. Echo you comment that they are great cars - need the right engine, colour, etc...
