Applying touch-up paint

What's the best procedure for touching up a paint chip with BMW touch-up paint? Also what's the drying times for the paint, I've managed to lose the instructions.

I'm now applying mine, leaving it a week and then shaving the blob off with a de-nibber. Great results, you wouldn't know the chip was ever there after a quick polish.

I use a rolled up piece of masking tape & use a very small about of paint & just build it up over a few hours, leave to cure over a few days then flatten with 600 paper

srhutch, KERMIT1970. Thanks.

For the record this is what I'm having to deal with -

That lower scratch/chip is about 15mm long

The bit that looks really bad is actually the slate filling the drainage gutters between the wall and the drive.

What is a de-nibber :)

I use a cocktail stick to put the paint on as the paintbrush is way too big.

Worth it at £49?

Need to do a couple on the X5. The Porsche "should" be easier as it is a solid colour and no gloss cover (single touch up stick only) - was planning the toothpick approach.

It's an alternative to wet sanding, but works better as you don't remove any surrounding clear coat.

Are you coming on the 12th? If so I can show you.

My question here would be how to use it on the significant concave surface?

Slowly, I don't go fast like in the video in case it catches. If it's on a door like a zed you would have to go up and down to match the contour.

Like everything there are times where this isn't going to work, but I'm finding mine useful with the chips on my car and the large scratch I fixed for one of the bosses at work.

Do you need to use lube like with a clay bar to prevent scratching the surrounding area?

I have two chips on the Porsche - one at the front on the bulge, and one on the rear arch (ignore the shredded plastic wheel arch protectors - CF replacements received from the US now to cover that part  ).

If this works, I would get one of those.

No lube required. Would work well on the beetle being black. Colour match is much easier on dark colours for such small areas.

That is what I thought as well. There is only a single touch up paint as well, so an all in one (simple) touchup process.

I have done the X5 - the toothpick approach gets the chips covered but there is no blob as I did not build it up. At the moment, you can not see the chips unless close up, will need to see what it looks like if building it up to a blob and removing it is better or not.
