Here is one someone retrofitted into an E39. Was wondering about this the other day, a mac mini is overkill and an Apple TV is a cool way to view content quickly similar to iTunes and only needs a remote to control, doesn't need a KB or mouse like a mac mini. Anyone have any ideas about installing one?? Would be an awesome mod IMHO!
These are his instructions
Pull up to your garage, sync all the music, photos, and movies you what then drive off !!!!!
This is a test fit of my Apple TV to my wife's 2001 E39 BMW, so far its working flawlessly complete with stereo sound !
No extra media box converter crap in the back just the Apple TV with AtvFlash installed.
To do it;
- Enable TV in motion with NAV CODER
- Install AtvFlash to your apple tv - This enables composite video out and activates the USB plus many more features.
- Use the reverse camera video input on the TV module. (this accepts composite video whilst still allowing the cd sound)
- Tap in to the CD left / right audio wires for stereo sound.
I plan to mount the apple tv in the centre console.
My BMW does not have Sat Nav or dvd but this should still work with those components fitted.
