Anyone regretted having the CDV mod?

You could damage drivetrain if the clutch was dumped aggressively. There are some who say it will wear out the drive train quicker, but many on here have not reported problems after the mod

I have never heard of any negative comments from anybody who removed the CDV

Except for those with an M that they wished they had not bothered as it was not worth the effort.

I'm not bothering. Decided to learn how to change lower gears better with the ///M gearbox and CDV present instead. Getting there.

No problems here, and not a single regret. I'd doubt I could say the same if I hadn't done it though.

Ignore the doom-sayers with their drivetrain talk. My Z4MC has covered 76k miles now, a lot of them on track, and with it's fair share of spectator-pleasing burnouts at Le Mans etc. Still original clutch, no abnormal noises/wear to the gearbox, diff etc. It's not an issue.

inkey$, remove it. You won't have to *learn* then. The CDV takes out all the clutch feel from the driving experience. The minute you get back into the car after making the mod, you'll drive the Z like any other car you jump into. It all becomes natural and you don't even think about it. You shouldn't have to concentrate on clutch engagement as much as the CDV makes you. It's a crappy design.

pvr, I most definitely noticed the difference on my M.

I'd love to do this mod, but when I went to try, I just couldn't figure out a way of jacking the car with a trolley jack and getting the axle stands into the right place simultaneously.

There's a central jacking point under the engine, but my jack isn't long enough for that, and I know others have jacked the car from the rear, but I was trying to avoid doing that due to space restrictions.

Any thoughts?

The M is the easiest to jack because of that central point. Even if you drive on a plank to be able to get the jack underneath. It really surprises me that you can not reach that point with a trolley jack though?

I shall take some photos this weekend, but basically by the time the trolley jack is under the car to reach the jacking point there is no height to raise to handle to lift it.

That pretty much sums it up.Had mine taken off by my Indy while he was doing other work a few days ago and I no longer have to think about the clutch release....driving is much more natural. It's a wonder BMW put such a piece of waste on a fine driving machine. Best mod ever and cost me nothing to do.

You may have convinced me to remove and try it out sixspeed.

Okay, Im considering getting this done after doing a 360 and being convinced it will be noticable (even though some say it isnt). RemeMbered that when I bought the ///M from Blacklines he kindly included a CDV that I think was ready to use as a replacement. Reason I cant quite remember is becuase I was too excited about getting out on the road in my new purchase so the info kind of washed over me.

Have posted a picture of the valve in and out of pack. Is this going to work for me and if so, whats the best way for me to get it sorted. Dont have jacks etc so would an indy do this for me?

Think from other threads 1/2 an hours labour at an Indy is roughly the norm...

Not sure from the picture if that's a modified unit that will flow quicker

You need to compare it with the old one once it's off the car. If the cannulation is larger, swap it. If it isn't, just leave them both off or modify one of them

I'm going to have mine removed in a few weeks when I have my new yellow stuff pads fitted (last track day finished them off).
