Happy days :) sometimes better to buy a "honest" car & bring it up to date on the routine stuff as opposed to a "polished" up example that hides a multitude of sins but has boxes ticked :wink:

Picking it up on Thursday.

I don't think anything needs immediate attention, although the brakes will need doing soon. I will probably get these done locally as it is a simple job.

For servicing I need to decide whether to keep up the BMW history or find a good independant. My gut feeling is independant if I can find a specialist who isn't too far away. I'm planning to keep the car a while and I cannot believe a full dealer history makes too much difference on a 10+ year old car? A good specialist independant would probably also know more about these engines and vehicles and a dealer anyway.

Any ideas in Herefordshire/North Gloucestershire/Monmouthshire?

It's a topic often brought up. I'm staying with the main dealer for servicing as I don't think it's a keeper.

If I was planning on keeping mine long term then I wouldn't hesitate in finding a good Indy as long as they had M engine experience.

Very happy overall, need to get the brakes sorted and my head around servicing. It has not done much mileage over the last 3 years (about 1000 miles per year) which maybe isn't a great thing but I think it will suit my requirements fine.

One small annoyance is that the cigarette lightner isn't working to charge my phone. Hopefully jut a fuse although I haven't had a chance to check yet. Anything else obvious it could be?

They look impressive from their website and are reasonably convenient to me. Does anyone have experience of them?

The SH of the car isn't as bullet proof as it might be so I think my best bet is a specialist independent rather than BMW.

Yes, exactly this, the fuse had gone on mine & a simple fix - or at least I thought, bearing in mind that something causes a fuse to 'pop' I decided to start off with a small value fuse rather than the standard 15A fuse, I put in a 3A fuse which blew straight away so I knew I had a problem - better to blow a 3A fuse rather than a 15A which would go off with a nice bang & flash.

I decided to take the ciggy lighter socket out of the car & put a meter on it & it was showing a full short circuit internally within the socket, it was really difficult to see but a small piece of the centre +12v terminal was bent & shorting out to the earth of the body of the socket, once straightened out the meter showed that the short was gone & again I started off with a low value fuse which was ok before putting the proper 15A fuse in.

Car looks gorgeous BTW.

Well, it has just been to Forza West for it's Inspection 2 and they also replaced the rear brake pipes as they were heavily corroded and needed fairly immediate attention. The cost was about what I was allowing when I bought the car but the front brake pads/discs have some life left in so have not been done yet.

They also gave me a list of advisories:
OSF/NSF Top Suspension Mounts failed
Steering rack worn
Air Con belt perished
Diff Prop seal leaking
Rear anti roll bar link rubbers perished
Centre LED brake light faulty

I haven't got costs for any of this yet. My initial thoughts are to try and get it all tided up but I expect the steering rack is going to be expensive and having done a quick search on here doesn't appear to be a common fault?

Might be aorth a try but I don't have much confidence in used car dealer warranty, especially if an item is "worn" rather than "unuseable".

That's quite a list for a car from a dealership... surely some of those would be rectifiable by the supplying dealership? Warranty has to be 3 months parts and labour from even a small indie does it not?

Either way, sounds like you've got a level head about what needs doing. And you've bought the best all round package/colour :thumbsup: Enjoy it buddy!
