Had it installed in Mac and iPhone today. Entire company moving over to it. Seems pretty cool, especially if I need to present new artwork to people, conference or work on the move.

Yeah, its not bad for a MS product, been using it since the 2010 incarnation. Great for improving communication in-firm.

Jabber does the same job if you're looking for free alternatives, and can then be used via ichat (great on a mac to have it all built in etc). In fact, in a mac business, simply using ichat is nice.

we use Lync 2013, great little app. we are looking to scrap the 15,000 IPT's and just use this for calls aswell as IM and screensharing etc

I personally hate IM in the office, it's akin to waving your hand in front of someone saying "stop what you're doing and listen to me now". I get it in emergency situations but 9 times out of 10 an email would've been more appropriate.

I also hate the "Idiot A is typing a message..." <dum di dum di dum di dum>. In the time it takes them to type (and possibly retype) they could've got off their arse and walked the 10 yards across the office to speak to me (or preferably not bothered me in the first place!!)

Can you tell I've had a bad day/week? ;)

Know what you mean. I plan to still operate my 'specialist' approach to such things by some heavy duty preferencing, standard issue ignoring and the seminal 'UNAVAILABLE' status selection.

My university attempted to implement it and unsurprisingly it failed miserably.

In theory it sounds good, but as has been highlighted above, I probably wouldn't care much for it in an office environment.

We use it extensively - big organisation based across 50+ sites in the UK alone and numerous international offices. Works really well for short conversations and document sharing during telecons etc. We've also started to deploy VOIP across Lync in the UK. The sound quality is quite impressive and there are some significant cost savings to be had when compared with maintaining telephone exchange infrastructure. Not everyone likes it though - occasionally it can be a little flaky, dropping calls and there's also the amusement factor of the call coming through on your laptop speakers if you inadvertently call someone on screen.

Yep been using Lync / Communicator for some years (since 07). Not quite as good as some other IM tools but not bad, some kinks still being worked out...
