Anyone else like a classic Land Rover?

Out walking the dogs at the coast and came across this little beauty - A Mk1 Land Rover (I think). Looked about for a chat with the owner but not about.

Am I the only one that thinks this is a fabulous looking machine? Would love one for local driving and for the simple pleasure of ownership but sadly, in this condition they fetch more than an ///M Zed!

Yea...

Easily 100k worth i would say..... They are all restored minters, but 2 are used daily, clocking up 8k plus a year...

I love them..... beautiful and infuriating in equal measure.

Love an old Landy. Ex MOD are always a good bet :-) Thinkong about getting my son one for his first car. Slow, almost indestructible - perfect I think!!

Proper beast, pops had an MOD with camouflage and some of the radio unit still in tact (!) for many years. This vehicle was in bits most weekends, probably spend most of its life on the floor - but my dad went onto tractors and developed a great understanding of mechanics.

- Wish I had taken a true interest at the time :)

I had a series 2a and 2 series 3's, I rebuilt the 2a and 1 of the 3's. Great to work and involving to drive :)

Glad to see there are some fellow admirers - even if they are uncomfortable!

A very different drive - I had the loan of a short wheelbase series 2 some years ago and found it more uncomfortable on urban estate roads than it was off road at the coast

I think people are looking at the old landrover with rose tinted glasses. From what I remember they were awful to drive ,poor economy ,noisy. As a farm vehicle they were in their element.

A collector item now and rightly described as a tractor for the road

I think they look wonderful though I prefer the light weight model.

My wife's Dad is a farmer and he had Land Rovers then Mitsubishi Shoguns - his last Shogun short wheelbase was really easy and light to drive - at the time an amazing and lovely vehicle in comparison to the Land Rovers he'd had.

a guy as 1 at 1 of the places I work, he was telling me that when the go out I them they can't leave them because they are so easy to pinch, not sure if he said they don't have a key or the key is so easy to get around, his is work 30K +

I think I know what you mean   :D

Lots of Defenders being stolen - think Halifaxbantam mentioned it Taz :(

A Daktari Land Rover Zed Five - I remember them

I had a series 1 hardtop many years ago - cold, wet, draughty, uneconomical - they look good tho!
Years later I drove Landrovers at work - cold, wet, draughty, uneconomical
Nothing changes !
