Anyone been to Jordan?

Wife is running a conference in Jordan next week and has talked me into going out at the end to spend a week at the Kempinski Ishtar on the Dead Sea, with a trip to Petra (which is what swung it for me, I always loved Lawrence of Arabia - well apart from the bit where the Turkish officer does him up the chuff  ).

Anyone been and got any tips or good places to visit? Not sure about doing the usual hotspots like Jerusalem, Bethlehem etc... but since I've never been there that might just be me being chopsy.... :o

Not been there myself but he below link seems to have it covered

Further, there is some stunning scenery out there as shown in the below link

As they (probably) say in Jordan...."more pricks than a second-hand dartboard effendi"....

I have been - took a bus ride to Petra for the day.
It is an amasing place and well worth seeing. Infact, I think I have been twice - they were starting to restore some of the buildings.

This is where you walk through as you enter the city

Thanks Ben ...really looking forward to it, flying out tomorrow, except I chose today to lose my camera battery charger - £40 for a replacement from Jessops - robbers! :headbang:

You've seen the Dane Bowers video too then ....

Not sure what the Kempinski at the Dead Sea is like but the one at Aqaba was fantastic.

The Dead Sea is - well - a bit dead but OK to spend a day at. Petra is not as tiring as the guides make out but wear decent shoes as it can be a bit uneven.

We chose Aqaba as we wanted to be near the Red Sea but the other main sites are all easy to travel to.

The people as in most of the Middle East are very warm and welcoming.
