Anybody know what noise this might be?

Intermittent tapping noise form what feels like the drivers side of the engine. No reduction in power or performance. No lights on the dash. Stopped and started again. Noise gone or reduced to a level you could no longer hear.

Any ideas?

Sounds like noisy lifters.
Was it from a cold start? Car been standing still for a few days?

Does sound very noisy - one of the issues with extended oil service intervals I suspect - When was the oil last changed ?
Sounds like an oil change and a (good thrashing) I mean long run might cure your issue then again you might find

Only time I ever had this was on my daughters Rover 1.8 GTI with the old twin cam VVC which was the forerunner I guess of VANOS
Ended up removing the cams and valve hydraulic tappets / lifters / buckets choose as appropriate and cleaning them all out individually - cured the problem - Bit of a drag cleaning and polishing all 16 of them though.

Agree sticky lifters the likely cause of the noise, I would put some oil flush product in it and give it a good run to get it circulated and do its cleaning on the internals followed by an oil and filter change. Some products direct to run the engine for ten or fifteen mins with the addative in before draining, follow the instructions that come with the product. Example product here others are available

Thanks all. After more research it would appear to be the hydraulic lifters being noisy after a short, cold run out after a few days not going anywhere. She’s just had an oil service so I think I’m in need of a few longer runs to warm things up a little.
