Have you considered an hydraulic conversion? Since I had mine done due to an eps failure, I have noticed the steering is much heavier but very useable when parking etc.?

just curious how bigger deal was the hydraulic conversion? my steering column failed last year, replaced now but was expensive - wish I had know about possibly going hydraulic, would be great to overcome the rather overlight vague EPS steering or failing that just reduce assistance
OP While mine was broken I continued to drive it, very very heavy trying to park (bit embarrassing if anyone saw you) much better at speed though
I had the conversion done by someone else the system was from an e46 325i. Total cost around £500. It went in pretty easy with a minor interface problem between the rack and existing column.
