I almost like the Scirocco but only from a couple of angles. The big killer for me is that you can't easily chuck a bike in it! The TT is bizarrely capacious. It's this that rules out the Cayman for me too.mr wilks said:You clearly like a fast VAG so a possible alternative to consider that i really enjoyed driving was a Scirocco R , quirky looks , quality cabin , cheaper to buy , easily mapped/ tweaked into a potent performer & with the intelligent front diff in & out of bends like a quattro , really impressive levels of torque & grip for a fwd car .
With my practical A3 Quattro, I keep finding myself missing the nice big boot in the TT! I drove the TT all the way over to Pembrokeshire from Bristol a couple of years ago. It took about 3.5 hours. I also took my road bike. And my luggage for the weekend. And my 6 ft 5 meathead mate. And his road bike. And his luggage for the weekendmr wilks said:TT more spacious than a Scirocco![]()
Id need convincing on that one :?
Cayman a, different configuration altogether

I tended to find that my TT made elevated cornering speeds so easy that faster speeds were no effort for me or for the car. So although I wasn't necessarily trying to drive fast, I was pushing on. I think I sort of know what you mean though!Angelus666 said:It's fast, but I just don't find myself wanting to drive it fast.... :?
Do you mind listing what broke in those four years? I had a suspension spring, a turbo actuator and a window regulator fail on my TT in 3 years/70,000 miles, which I thought was reasonable enough. It was on 150,000 miles when I sold it.Angelus666 said:Mine has been very expensive to maintain though, lot's of little bits have gone wrong with it and I think I've spent in the best part of £5k in maintenance in 4 years. The missus now hates the thing and can't wait for it to go now![]()
That's really interesting. I've gone straight from a TT Quattro S Line to an A3 Quattro S Line, both using the same engine, and find the A3 an absolute bore to drive after the TT! I can see why you wouldn't really class the TT as a true sports car in its feel. After all, it's a front-engined, 4WD, 1.5 tonne car with four seats. It won't be a weekend/sunny day car for me so I'm looking for an all-rounder again rather than a spritely toy to chuck down narrow roads at the flick of a wristChris1712 said:I drove a TTS before I got my 35iS (and actually, 5 years prior a 3.2 TT before I got my E86!) and found the 'feel' just too dull. Yes they're very capable, but it feels too much like an A3 with a roof chop to me. Does not feel like a sports car in any way.
